Richard Brody The New Yorker Jan 9, 2017
With a graceful round of self-deceptions and mistaken identities, exquisite rationalizations and fortuitous accidents, Rohmer pierces the glossy veneer of the social scene and the dignified realm of art to reveal the sexual fury that they embody. Go to Full Review
Jonathan Romney Film Comment Magazine Apr 14, 2015
There's irony but no cruelty here; Rohmer is not making Louise the butt of the joke or saying "serve her right." It's simply in the nature of stories illustrating a proverb that someone is bound to suffer from the principle at stake. Go to Full Review
Geoff Andrew Time Out Jan 26, 2006
It's as elegant and incisive a comedy of manners as ever from Rohmer. Go to Full Review

Ray Pride Newcity Jul 2, 2015
Rohmer's wordplay is scalpel-precise, but the movement of his characters, the blocking of figures in dances of desire, figurative and literal, is also supremely graceful even as relationships explode with casual centripetal force. Go to Full Review

Ron S Jan 28, 2017 Louise (Pascale Ogier) lives in the Paris suburbs with her boyfriend Remi (Tcheky Karyo). She says their relationship is good, but it's become increasingly strained by their having different wants and lifestyles. Louise has been renting out the apartment she lived in in downtown Paris, but when the latest tenant leaves, she decides to secretly take it back for herself so that she has a place to be alone. I like Rohmer ... really ... quite a lot, but occasionally he creates characters that grate on me with their ... "Frenchness" for want of a better term. That, plus my lack of affection for Ogier as an actress, renders this one a little underwhelming for me. See more
