The Lemp daughters -- Ann (Priscilla Lane), Kay (Rosemary Lane), Thea (Lola Lane) and Emma (Gale Page) -- belong to a family of talented musicians, with their father, Adam (Claude Rains), at the helm. To bring in extra income, the Lemps rent rooms in the house, which brings in composer Felix Deitz (Jeffrey Lynn) and pianist Mickey Borden (John Garfield). Since the daughters are all of marrying age and the men are bachelors, complications arise when love enters the household.

Feb 1, 2019 The best romance movie ever made!
Harry R Apr 29, 2017 I had never seen John Garfield before this movie and he really made an impression and I've liked him in everything I've seen him in since. The relationship between the daughters and dad is lively and fun. I love Claude Rains. Three of the four sisters are actually sisters. See more
Anakin R Mar 22, 2017 I did not have high hopes for Four Daughters, but it was better than I expected. It rose above the mundane idea of a bunch of girls looking for a mate, and actually had some strong story elements. The daughters are all empowered pretty well considering the time period it was made. They are picking and choosing their mates, looking for true love over the desperation of just finding any old man, and one of them even prioritizes a career over seeking a husband. It started out feeling more like a seriously out-of-date drama about these girls living in a primitive system, and ended up being a little more progressive than that, as well as having a fair amount of comedy. I also found the bonds between the sisters added to the film, and impacted one of the main plot threads significantly. I love when movies focus on sacrificial love, and the way that some love can transcend romance and crushes. It was also nice that this movie didn't fall into the typical trope of the bickering sisters. There was a lot of potential for these relationships to be contentious and for them to just spend time with countless cat-fights. But here we see the bonds of family as strong and lasting. While the characters, and some of the things that happen to them were good, the plot was very muddled. It took a long time before I felt like Four Daughters had figured out which story it wanted to highlight. For awhile I was concerned that it was going to ramble on and never have anything significant occur. Luckily, it got there eventually and there was a central story that kept me interested. The ending was surprising, and might have been a bit off-putting, but I still smiled because of how things were resolved. I'll also say the cast was good, particularly the four daughters themselves who each had a unique personality which made the film better. It's not the type of movie that will appeal to everyone, but I enjoyed it. See more
