What to Know

Critics Consensus

A poorly scripted history-rewriting exercise with mediocre acting and unconvincing CGI battle scenes.

Flyboys doesn't just use cliches - it wallows in them, feeling more like a film based on old war movies than actual history. Go to Full Review

While director Bill nails the sheer spectacle of squads of SPADs dovetailing in flames into the wide blue yonder, the earthbound action (much as it was in another sputtering epic, Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor) is strictly laissez-faire. Go to Full Review

Aafter a while -- there must be six major fights against unending numbers of German planes -- it feels like special effects run amok. Go to Full Review

Unfortunately, all that I see for Flyboys is it flying into the sunset and away from the box office charts with its rudder tucked beneath its wings. Go to Full Review

Each air battle has been scripted as a set piece that not only shows off the capabilities of the pilots and their machines, but also advances the plot. Bring your Dramamine! Go to Full Review

Ron R Apr 22, 2019 Wow these guys must have made the critics for Rotten Tomatoes mad because they could not be more wrong. This movie has so many cool things about it. The way they showed these guys lives before enlisting was amazing. Really had every take/mentality. Then to see them go through training and brutal war conditions was incredible. Very low chance these pilots returned, planes were first introduced during this time. Very badass characters very brave, noble characters. It starred James Franco.. and also the way this movie included romance was also different in a good way because it wasn't cliche 1/2 (C) at all. Respectable all around great movie. Very misleading ratings. See more
Nov 5, 2018 I laughed through most of it. Truly terrible.
Abraham R Oct 4, 2018 Decent Movie. It tells a true story that is very inspiring.
Draco L Oct 15, 2017 I love this movie! It started out a little slow but shortly afterwards it picked up and I was so interested in tge characters and storyline that I was flying and shooting right along with them. A must see! See more
Poe R Aug 10, 2017 I liked the movie. Do not find it horrible. I wasn not really watching it for the historically rewritten part.... I watched it because it sounded interesting and it delervied entertainment as a movie should! Franco does not seem to outshine anyone else and I think that is an added benefit to him being in this movie. A few interesting turns in the movie, nothing major but enough to keep the story movie. Anakin S Jul 8, 2017 One of my all-time favorites.
