What to Know

Critics Consensus

Fireworks seeks sparks in an ambitious blend of storytelling genres, but this misguided anime effort never truly takes flight.

This is probably one of the worst anime films I've seen that got a theatrical release in America. Go to Full Review

It's a treat to see a film about young love where the young lovers aren't wise beyond their years; instead, they're prone to making stupid mistakes out of inexperience and perfectly understandable fear. Go to Full Review

A strange little movie that attempts the tricky feat of combining comedy, drama, sci-fi and romance, but it doesn't get those individual elements right so it never coheres as a whole. Go to Full Review

"Fireworks" is a very entertaining anime that will put a smile on its audience through its simple but captivating romance and the surrealistic brush of the titular question. Go to Full Review

Akiyuki Shinbo's film (responsible for the anime of 'Yu Yu Hakusho', among others) works, especially on an aesthetic level, and if you forget about its irrelevance in other aspects. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Rey W Mar 27, 2019 It so happy and sad. it made me cry so hard. it was a great movie. the end did not show were they were but still great. so before you watch it you better be ready to cry hard See more
George W Mar 14, 2019 It's a well made illustration of those opportunities you miss throughout life. Shaft's weird storytelling style is a good tool for visiting the "what if"s that weight in our hearts from time to time. The "critics consensus" on this one is quite nonsensical. There is no "ambitious blend of genres" here. It's about a simple life changing event that forces a few common students to face their feelings, and a magical element that gives them the possibility of realizing what those feelings are. See more
Feb 17, 2019 The only "fault" with this movie is it grossly over estimated the intelligence of many of it's viewers.
