Leia L Aug 20, 2018 I found that this movie had a decent plot and could have been a decent film had the second half been rewritten. The acting was what you would expect from this genre and you could get into its slow reserve. However, the film accomplished nothing: I would change the title to "The Final Let down". See more

Albus R Feb 16, 2018 Like many films from the early eighties this has dated badly. The premise is hard to swallow but it does allow some interesting ethical dilemmas to be superficially explored. Should the crew of the Nimitz intervene to prevent the bombing of Pearl Harbour and change history? However, the script handles the issues rather clumsily with some on-the nose dialogue. Martin Sheen's character is superfluous to the plot, his role being purely to voice the audiences questions and offer some cod-philosophy. Kirk Douglas doesn't really fit in this movie, though like the true pro he is, he delivers the most awkward lines with consummate ease. What impresses though is the 2nd Unit footage of the aircraft taking off from and landing on the USS Nimitz. This was made 6 years before 'Top Gun' yet some of the camerawork looks identical. these scenes go on too long however, and feel like padding. It's as if the makers felt there wasn't enough incident for the film to run over 90 minutes so they stretched out some scenes that do not move the story along. I cannot see this film appealing to anyone apart from fans of military hardware. See more
