Stacy Hamilton (Jennifer Jason Leigh) is a pretty, but inexperienced, teen interested in dating. Given advice by her uninhibited friend, Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates), Stacy gets trapped in a love triangle with nice guy Mark Ratner (Brian Backer) and his more assured buddy Mike Damone (Robert Romanus). Critics Consensus

While Fast Times at Ridgemont High features Sean Penn's legendary performance, the film endures because it accurately captured the small details of school, work, and teenage life.

The movie ends up with no clear identity; it doesn't work as anything.

The best of the racy teen comedies perfectly preserves the fashions and attitudes of the ’80s.

What it doesn't have is a clear point of view, something that would make it of more interest than leafing through a high school yearbook.

In the perfect wheelhouse of teen movies: Sexually frank, right up to the inclusion of an abortion subplot, but not too crass or exploitative. (40th anniversary)

40 years on, Heckerling's film is as iconic as ever. Fast Times...features no shortage of stand-out characters and memorable moments, but where the film truly excels is how refreshingly candid it is about sex, dating and abortion.

Overrated. All of the pieces are there, but they fail to come together. Solid individual performances and plot lines, but it lacks cohesion, momentum, and a satisfying resolution.

Attended high school in the early 80's and tgis classic represents that time period well. Must see.

I think Crowe really nailed a great perspective of teen life in the early 80s (because it was). Some people are trying to compare it to the Jonh Hughes classics such as the breakfast club, however they are stylistically different types of comedies and Hughes movies came after with a more new wave attack than a rock n roll attack. While Ridgemont may not hit on deeper levels its pop culture visuals and sounds make this a must watch. It takes me back to my teen years in the 80s of Arcades, malls and actually being social not being social media.

We have a duty, as teens of the 80's, to give this movie its rightful due. Still holds up today with high-school angst, cliques, challenges, problems, and glory - automatics stop down if I see this movie playing on one of the many movie channels. Under-appreciated and not acknowledged for the incubator it was for talent (Cage, Edwards, Penn, Whitaker, Reinhold, Leigh, Cates) and culture of a glorious time & age.
