Fargo remains gripping decades later not just for its craft and darkly comic story but for the way it turns myth-making – storytelling and deception – into its central preoccupation. Go to Full Review

The North Dakota setting is icily evocative, the supporting characters perfectly pitched (remember Marge's old flame Mike Yanagita?), while the air of sadness that blankets the film like snow adds genuine profundity. Go to Full Review

The dialogue is as good as it can get, funny because it is so accurate and true -- and as ordinary as the chat we have with the neighbor as we shovel the sidewalk. Go to Full Review

30 years after the Cutlass emerged from the blizzard, Fargo is still the most honest American movie I know about the relationship between small human failure and catastrophic harm. Go to Full Review

Rey G Apr 28, 2019 The Coen Brothers either make gripping, entertaining subject matter or quirky, styled mediocrity. Fargo falls into the ladder category. They gave us a very favorable story, a nice setting, and strong writing. Yet, they also gave us forced unfunny comedy, extremely uninteresting characters, and a dull climax and resolution. Not bad overall, but nowhere near a true classic. See more
Luke R Apr 11, 2019 Amazing. Dark comedy. Wonderful cinematography.
George M Mar 3, 2019 The Cohen Brothers have mixed violence with dark humor and quirky Minnesota accents to give a "Fargo" an exceptional original crime story that benefits from Frances McDormand's fantastic performance. See more
Hermione S Feb 27, 2019 As a 17 year old kid... I have seen this movie a dozen times and has taken the title as my favorite movie of all time... for now. Whether it be the wonderful performances... compelling plot or wonderful script this movie has set the standard (in my mind) for the rest of its genre. See more
Albus S Feb 16, 2019 âFargoâ?, released in in 1996 follows a man who sets up a hostage situation with his wife in order to get a pay-out from her rich father. While watching the film, I thought a lot about how much more complicated the story became when more people got involved. It made me feel anxious when watching it as a result. âFargoâ? fits into the crime drama by not being a drama and rather a dramedy. Personally, I would have liked if the comedic moments were played up a little more. The comic relief was always Frances McDormand, who I loved. My favorite part of the writing in the film is how complicated and mucky things get as time goes on. An example of this is when Jerryâ(TM)s father-in-law wants to get involved in dropping off the money and ends up getting shot and killed. In terms of directing, I thought that it was an interesting choice to have Jerry still be carrying the groceries when heâ(TM)s walking upstairs to see where his wife is. It added to the characterâ(TM)s eagerness to see if his plan worked. My favorite scene in regard to editing is when the robbers are breaking into the house. The shots bounce between the wifeâ(TM)s reaction and the crowbar knocking more and more into the door to the bathroom that sheâ(TM)s hiding in. The editor really took their time with each shot and it really amps up the tension. Frances McDormand as Marge Gunderson is tremendous. I love her âcan do attitudeâ? and positive spin on everything. When she is first investigating the triple homicide, she views everything matter-of-factly as if she were discussing the weather with someone. Though the cinematography wasnâ(TM)t my favorite overall, I enjoyed when the robbers are chasing after the guys who spotted them killing the cop. The shot of the road ahead of them is really interesting because half of the shot is the road and half of it is the dark night and you can faintly see the red taillights before them disappear. The production value overall was great. Regarding the sound design, I appreciated when the guy is watching TV â" the TV is fuzzy, and the sound quality is really fuzzy and murky. The sound designer did a good job matching the sound quality with the production value of the screen. See more
