If this is Hitchcock's last film, he couldn't have left us on a more confident and mischievously inventive note. Go to Full Review

Out of respect for Hitchcock's stature, and his years, Family Plot should be considered as fleetingly as possible. Go to Full Review

Hitchcock's final picture is not one of the classics but has many of the elements that made him great. Go to Full Review
Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media Jun 26, 2025
This is overlong and plodding, about as clever as a mediocre sitcom, looking like a parody/knockoff of one of Hitchcock's better efforts. Go to Full Review

The journey is often amusing and sometimes nerve-wracking. Either way, it is not to be missed. Go to Full Review
Russell Davies Observer (UK) Oct 6, 2023
Family Plot is a confection: a sugared almond, from the heart whose kernel the tiny capsule of traditional poison is unaccountably missing. Billed as diabolical, the film is in fact benign to the point of all-out merriment. Go to Full Review

Albus M Jan 28, 2019 I love this movie. Not Hitchcock's best, but still a movie that I could watch over and over again. Brilliant score by John Williams, too. See more
Ron W Nov 1, 2018 Solid thriller from the master mind Hitchcock. Sad it was his last.
Ron W Oct 15, 2018 Not crazy about this one. Family Plot was the first Hitchcock movie with comedic elements that I've watched and it didn't really do it for me. See more
Anakin S Sep 27, 2018 A brilliant mixture of comedy and crime thriller, in the best fashion of Hitchcock. Two hours fly in a blink of an eye, featuring the ominous music by John Williams. The performances are superbly acted, every actor is hilarious and salient in his own way. Not a scene is wasted in this picture. See more
Luke S Sep 5, 2018 Family Plot features visually memorable Karen Black plus Barbara Harris and Bruce Dern are such a fun, likable couple. It's well shot and it features a couple of terrific scenes such as the fun breaking the fourth wall ending and the car scene is thrilling. But overall, it's just a solid, but far from great Hitchcock film which is overly convoluted in plot and never as fun or as funny as it should have been. See more
Finn S Sep 4, 2018 Family Plot surprised me. As Alfred Hitchcock's last film, I expected him to be a little burned out and the film to suffer because of it, but it's a clever and captivating movie. Even though it's a little goofy in parts, it still manages to be suspenseful and the story takes turns that I didn't expect. This is upper-tier Hitchcock. See more
