Inspired by the book written by Dr. David Reuben, director Woody Allen tackles seven questions about sex by connecting seven not-so-connected stories. From aphrodisiacs to sexual perversion to the mystery of the male orgasm, characters like a court jester (Woody Allen), a doctor (Gene Wilder), a queen (Lynn Redgrave) and a journalist (Heather MacRae) adventure through lab experiments and game shows, all seeking answers to common questions that many would never ask.

Cockeyed and sometimes insanely funny. Go to Full Review
Stephen Silver Tilt Magazine Aug 26, 2022

Quite uneven, with some of the segments considerably funnier than others. But the film is valuable as the sort of movie — an anthology, based on a popular nonfiction book — that’s all but disappeared (50th anniversary) Go to Full Review

3.5/4
The film remains one of Woody's most shocking, vulgar and sophomoric efforts, yet there's no denying its potent comic quota. Go to Full Review

7/10
While each piece alternates between awkward, irreverent, uncomfortable, hilarious, and momentarily brilliant, there isn't much to tie them together. Go to Full Review

With one exception, the skits are delightful. Go to Full Review

Woody Allen runs the risk of becoming, with time, the main protagonist of the same structures he attacks so assiduously. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Feb 1, 2019 The best comedy movie ever made!
George W Jan 7, 2018 If it weren’t for the last two brilliant sketches, this wouldn’t have done it for me.
Rey R Feb 25, 2017 Certainly the best of Woody's early "silly" movies. Funny, smart and terribly stupid. Did what Bananas failed to do - make me laugh. See more
Han S Feb 5, 2017 #WOODYALLENRETRO PODCAST PROJECT (available on iTunes) Admittedly clever ideas for segments but overall just not as funny as previous works and probably would have worked better if Allen took a more serious stab at the topics with added comedy instead of going full on spoof, has not aged well on rewatch and apart from sheep and ejaculation segments - leaves alot to be desired See more
Han R Jan 6, 2012 sporadically funny, but two sketches stand out, the ''What Is Sodomy?'' and the ''What Happens During Ejaculation?'', the rest have some interesting parts, but not near the humour of these two. Somewhat irregular, but overall an original and funny movie See more
