Single mother Carla Moran (Barbara Hershey) is raped and attacked by an invisible force. She begins therapy with Dr. Phil Sneiderman (Ron Silver), a psychiatrist who believes Carla's traumatic past is motivating her to commit self-induced injuries, rather than anything supernatural. When the attacks continue, Carla invites two college students with an interest in the paranormal to visit her house. After seeing the ghost in action, they agree to help Carla defeat her invisible attacker.

Thankfully this film doesn't look for too many answers, and leaves us undecided as it closes as to how bad of a film it really is. The answer: not that bad.

I saw this movie at the theater when it came out and was struck by it, but at the time I would not be able to say why. Tonight after all these years, having never forgotten about it, I watch it again. Not a horror movie, but still a scary movie. Short impression, the main character stood up against the threat, the options, and the future and decided to go on undefeated.. I place the movie in my top favorite scary favorite movies. Certianly worth or watching again.

Although it is a bit overlong and not exactly scary, this is a decent supernatural film that benefits from a good dialogue and characters that act like normal people in view of the disturbing circumstances they find themselves in, with Barbara Hershey in a strong performance.

Woman gets terrorized by an invisible entity and turns to researchers at a local university to help. The panel discussions by the researchers provide some interesting theories. Had never heard of this film, wish I had seen a better print.

It takes a sleazy cheese ball premise and it treats it with the utmost seriousness. The film successfully juggles the mixture of reality and supernatural horror and creates an experience that is far more ambiguous than what was probably intended. It's slow but effective.

Synopsis
