Assassin-for-hire Elektra works for a mysterious international organization known as the Hand, for which she kills her targets without question, and in a conspicuous red bustier, no less. When the Hand asks her to kill Mark Miller and his daughter, Abby, while they're on holiday, Elektra's conscience kicks in, and she decides to protect her targets rather than eliminate them. Of course, the Hand isn't so willing to let them off the hook.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jennifer Garner inhabits her role with earnest gusto, but Elektra's tone deaf script is too self-serious and bereft of intelligent dialogue to provide engaging thrills.

The real issue I have with this movie is how uneventful so much of it feels. Go to Full Review

If the film isn't as bad as some others in the comics-to-cinema genre (Halle Berry's Catwoman has rather lowered the bar), that's not to say it's good. Go to Full Review

Even at just a slim 96 minutes, the film drags in places, with a predictable plot. Go to Full Review

The special effects are well realized and enough attention is paid to the character of Elektra to make her a formidable rival to any number of Wolverines. Go to Full Review

George W Apr 23, 2019 Not the worst movie I've ever seen, but compare it to the Elektra from the MARVEL comics or to the Elektra from the Daredevil movie it's a big disappointment! See more
Mar 31, 2019 I think that this movie was a b that brought Marvel movies to its peak. Unlike DC Catwoman at least the Elektra movie had a story and no matter how many times I watch it I could never get tired of it. Jennifer Garner preferred the role of Elektra which I thought was the best. I still wish they would have did a sequel to Elektra. See more
Albus S Mar 30, 2019 The highlights for me were the baddies turning into giant green farts when killed and seeing Garner's protruding buttocks in action. See more
Finn P Dec 9, 2018 Comic adaptations, especiallly of the superhero kind, are generally a slippery task (campy vs silly), but on this occasion the result is on simple B picture/Golan-Globus level. See more
Anakin S Aug 16, 2018 I do not know what all of the fuss was about. I thought the movie was just fine as a super hero movie in a long line of super hero movies. A kung fu super hero movie. Just because it is, just another day on the job for her, and her conscience catches up to her, instread of some manifest destiny to save the planet/galaxy from another wave of all encompassing evil does not make it a bad movie. There are plenty of, yeah right moments, but what is wrong with that? Maybe we are punishing her because of her connection to Ben Affleck. By the way, the original Star Trek series and A New Hope are still my favorites from those franchises and I liked Catwoman and the origianl cheesy Batman and Robin movie. The movie: an ousted fighter, becomes an assassin, but when her conscience catches up to her, she has the opportunity to make amends and protect a man (romantic interest?) and become a role model for his impressionable daughter, with a back story of their own. Lots of specail effects. Lots of interesting ideas. Cool. See more
Rey M Jun 14, 2018 Problems with this movie: 1. Rated PG-13 instead of rated R. An R-rating would have been much more fitting for this comic book character's film. 2. Main character is whitewashed. 3. Elektra has an American accent instead of a Greek accent. 4. Iconic, classic red costume is barely shown, and worn by Elektra only twice. 5. Pacing is horribly slow. 6. Runtime is too short. 7. Too many unnecessary and pointless flashbacks. 8. Too much slow motion during fights. 9. Forced subplot with the single father and daughter. (the movie could have literally been titled "Protecting the Millers") 10. Plot is bad 11. CGI is bad. 12. Lack of action. 13. Villain is underdeveloped. 14. Deaths are corny, cause deadly green gas appears right when and where a Hand member's dead body disappears. I really love Jennifer Garner, but this movie is horrible. It was so BORING and HORRIBLY paced with an insane amount of flashbacks and boring dialogue. The movie was so boring that it put me to sleep. I've watched it a few times and tried to like it but I just couldn't get myself to liking it. The action is extremely dull and a lot of the physics didn't even make sense. The amount of flashbacks was boring, ridiculous, annoying, and unnecessary. The pacing is super extremely slow. The plot is horrible. She spends most of her work life being a deadly assassin killing people then spends one night at a couple of strangers' house for dinner and then the next day she gets assigned by the Hand to assassinate the girl who was the daughter of the man who she ate dinner with and suddenly decides not to kill her and aborts her mission. So ONE short crummy night was long enough for her to get that attached to two people she barely knows? That's such horrid writing! So the Hand later at night decide to kill the 13-year-old girl themselves and Elektra spends the rest of the movie with the father and the daughter while protecting them and go on a familylike road trip with them to get away from the Hand. Later it turns out that the 13-year-old girl was actually an assassin herself which is strange because she criticized Elektra for killing people for a living. It's so hypocritical! This is such an incredibly campy comic book movie. It's a very, very, very, very, very, very poorly written, poorly made, and poorly directed film. It's a shame because I really like Jennifer Garner a lot and she is a wonderful actress and one of my favorite actors ever, but this movie was so disappointing and horrible. What makes it even worse is that she is my favorite live-action version of Elektra and I like her far better than Elodie Yung's Elektra, who I personally felt was super annoying.
