The plane carrying wealthy Charles Morse (Anthony Hopkins) crashes down in the Alaskan wilderness. Together with the two other passengers, photographer Robert Green (Alec Baldwin) and assistant Stephen (Harold Perrineau), Charles devises a plan to help them reach civilization. However, his biggest obstacle might not be the elements, or even the Kodiak bear stalking them -- it could be Robert, whom Charles has reason to believe is having an affair with his wife and would not mind seeing him dead.

The Edge

What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Edge is an entertaining hybrid of brainy Mamet dialogue with brawny outdoors action -- albeit one that sadly lacks as much bite as its furry antagonist.

The Edge, for all its hokiness, makes it real. When Hopkins comes down from the mountain, I believed he was looking at the world with new eyes. Go to Full Review

It's not hard to read Charles' journey in 'The Edge' as analogous to its author's: the library-dwelling intellectual using his wits to brave rougher elements. Go to Full Review

...The Edge's fusion of Mametspeak with a true life adventure remains brawny entertainment, even it it is difficult to take as seriously as the filmmakers intend. Go to Full Review

It's likely moviegoers will remember a bear more than the limp dialogue -- that is stale David Mamet. Go to Full Review

I really enjoy this unique character that Hopkins created in The Edge, and I feel he owns the movie. Go to Full Review

Mamet has always been concerned with primal masculinity...The test of these men is twofold: can they survive the wilderness, and can they survive each other? [Blu-ray] Go to Full Review

Kylo P Mar 3, 2019 An "Edge" of your seat Action Adventure. Excellent performances from Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin
Poe G Jan 28, 2019 Satisfying combination of David Mamet and the action/survival genre. Good stuff.
Finn P Jan 6, 2019 An entertaining movie but i would have enjoyed it more if Alce Baldwin had been eaten by the bear.
Nov 1, 2018 Don't let any of the pretentious critics and even a good portion of the overweening lay audience deter you from this film. The reason it is not constituted as one of the most critically acclaimed masterpieces of the last century is because it represents a white billionaire in a kinder light than the majority of films which generally portrays them as something akin to a capitalist hitler. It is a wonderful film criminally underrated and will simply awe you with the gravity and truth it aspires to illuminate. Which is that poverty does not inherently entail virtue and that wealth does not necessarily imbue the prosperous with vice. Occasionally, the the rich man is also the good man. See more
