Its pacing could be a little more brisk and its main characters a little more exciting, but Dragonslayer nevertheless earns its place in fantasy filmdom for featuring one of the best fire-breathing creatures ever committed to celluloid. Go to Full Review

Dragonslayer, with the aid of superior stop-motion animation, hand puppets and hydraulic body mechanisms superbly puts on celluloid one of the most spectacular creatures of myth which in turn totally immerses you in a world of fantasy. Go to Full Review

As much of a triumph as this creature is, Vermithrax can't carry the entire picture. No creature can, and it is the lapses in the human part of the equation that prevent Dragonslayer from being the picture it might have been. Go to Full Review

Harry S Mar 15, 2018 It's got great themes and intense moments with a satisfying final act to boot, but a sense of detachment haunts the entire piece. See more
Han R Dec 17, 2017 One of the better dragon genre movies in existence.
Abraham M Aug 31, 2017 An entertaining yet dark spectacle of a movie that terrified me as a child. I guarantee most children now would be scared. Some effects are dated but in a good way. The dragon up close is still a marvel to behold and yes, she is still terrifying, See more
Theodore P Feb 18, 2017 DragonSlayer 1 out of 5 stars (2017) 4 out of 5 stars (1981) A young curly haired wizards apprentice must rise up and save the girl next door princess using only his spear and his charm. (See what I did there?) So let me take you back to a time before Lord of The Rings a time when Starwars was still the best thing with the recent release of Empire and true sword and sorcery films were few and far between. It's important to take that into perspective because back then nerds had to take what they could get. Flash forward to 2017 past the renaissance of the 80s scifi/ fantasy genre and Dragonslayer becomes nothing more than a footnote in bizzare Disney history. Trust me its almost unwatchable. The dialogue is about as fun as listening to your roommate sit on a toilet with diaerreah. The cast is just painful to look at and watch, Seriously, I hope who ever was in charge of wardrobe and the drab set pieces never managed to worked in Hollywood again. Anyway there's brief nudity and gore which is cool because I'd be hard pressed to give out that one star otherwise. The spear/sword fight has magical sparks flying about for some apparent reason, because magic I suppose and the sound effects make it all the more hilarious, im sure this was added to distract fom the choreography because its about as graceful as a Hippo on a trampoline (imagine it). So all in all, is it worth your time? The Dragon FX are decent for 1981and were even nominated for an Oscar and if you are in need a drinking buddy, like me last night, Dragonslayer is your man. Albus S Jan 26, 2017 The visuals, music, and special effects are all strong, but they're wasted in a film that holds little to no substance. Even the final act wasn't worth the wait. I'll say this though, it is the darkest and bloodiest film I've seen with Disney being involved. See more
