In 1942, young Traudl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara) lands her dream job -- secretary to Adolf Hitler (Bruno Ganz) at the peak of his power. Three years later, Hitler's empire is now his underground bunker. The real-life Traudl narrates Hitler's final days as he rages against imagined betrayers and barks orders to phantom armies, while his mistress, Eva Braun (Juliane Köhler), clucks over his emotional distance, and other infamous Nazis prepare for the end.

Does Downfall "humanize" Hitler and his henchmen, as its critics have complained? Yes, and it should: to pretend these villains were less than human is to let ourselves off the hook, to take the easy and dangerous exit of demonology. Go to Full Review

Some demons are too extreme to comprehend, but Hirschbiegel's film nonetheless provides a painfully unflinching glimpse into the outer workings of the mortally wounded Third Reich. Go to Full Review

Viewed through a North American lens, the movie itself seems more familiar than fascinating, more innocuous than inflammatory, and, at 21/2 hours, more tedious than anything else. Go to Full Review

Abraham L Feb 26, 2019 Downfall gives the best realistic visual of what the last days of the third reich looked like. The movie is based on memoirs and accounts of people who were there and lived it. See more
Rey S Feb 23, 2019 Brutal. Uncompromising. Truly reveals the absolute embodiment of despair.
Hagrid S Feb 7, 2019 a must watch movie acting was amazingly believable storyline was great the stories of all the different characters intertwined was a nice touch the pace of the movie can feel slow at times overall this movie does a good job showing the human side of hitler and his odd thoughts that brought down the nation that relied on him, slowly turning them away from him. Dec 27, 2018 One of the greatest movies I ever saw really showed many perspectives. And many will say it was over glorified but I disagree as for the nazis it really must have been the acapolypse. See more
Abraham G Nov 19, 2018 A very interesting look at the final days of the second war world, through the perspective of the Nazis and the German people. The film is very well directed and the cast are all very convincing in their roles. I looked up a lot of facts about, Hitler and his generals and this film is very accurate. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in the third reich, Second World War or just history in general. See more
