A former U.S. Marine trains to compete in a vicious bare-knuckle fight where the winner gets a $100,000 prize.

Critics Consensus

Donnybrook has a solid cast and noble intentions, but they're overwhelmed by surface storytelling and unrelentingly grim violence.

Holy hell, "Donnybrook" is bleak. A movie about a down-on-his-luck former soldier and a vicious drug dealer competing for $100,000 in an underground bare-knuckle melee already sounds grim, but damn.

The gritty film is a no-holds-barred bare-knuckle battle royal through the most impoverished corner of contemporary America. It is not for the faint of heart.

A repulsive story of drugs and street-fighting that wallows in violence more than suspense.

Even thought you're rooting for Jamie Bell - you don't really get to root for anything good. It's depravity without an escape.

Unapologetically harsh with an abundance of visceral mayhem.

Absolute garbage. Most pompous and mind numbingly boring movie I've seen this year

You'll either love or hate this story, but it certainly is a fresh and hard-to-forget tale. The acting, in almost every case, was top-notch. The movie's pacing and flow were excellent. Even my wife, who doesn't typically care much for movie violence, remarked that this was one of the best films she's seen in a while. Donnybrook is definitely worth a view. In a world of forgettable flicks, you'll walk away remembering this one.

Pointless and quite mean-spirited, Donnybrook feels like self indulgent passion project about the fighting culture of poor America, which never comes to its right with overblown background music and zero character development.
