A barren soundstage is stylishly utilized to create a minimalist small-town setting in which a mysterious woman named Grace hides from the criminals who pursue her. The town is two-faced and offers to harbor Grace as long as she can make it worth their effort, so Grace works hard under the employ of various townspeople to win their favor. Tensions flare, however, and Grace's status as a helpless outsider provokes vicious contempt and abuse from the citizens of Dogville.

Dogville's tongue-clucking point-and von Trier makes it broadly-is the hypocrisy of the Good Samaritan, but a less clinical film could have done so more powerfully. Go to Full Review

Kidman has never lacked the courage to perform in innovative productions on stage and screen, such as The Blue Room and Eyes Wide Shut. In this film, which is a bit of both, she acquits herself gamely. Go to Full Review

Leia W Feb 27, 2019 Well, this IS something, isn't it? Like it, love it, hate it: does not matter, watch it!
Draco W Dec 11, 2018 What an amazing movie. Its like a very long play on stage captured on camera. Its very very original plot goes along perfectly with its highly original cinematography. Its a tough story to get through at times due to the harshness of the actions being portrayed but fortunately theres theres justie in the end which makes for such a great pay off. The acting is amazing led by Nicole Kidman, as the cast really help give the movie a certain authenticity. Its got a ver long run-time (177min) just short of 3 hours, but it literally flies by. Highly recommend this drama and suspense piece. See more
Hermione S Dec 4, 2018 All you need to know is Will Self thinks this 'essential'.
Draco P Jul 30, 2018 Dogville overstays its welcome at a number of points but overall Lars von Trier has crafted one of the most unique and original viewing experiences of the 21st century and serves as an excellent showcase for Nicole Kidman's talent. See more
Luke M Jul 4, 2018 Very interesting at the begging but it lost some of its punch towards the end. Ending was quite disappointing.
Jun 20, 2018 Excellent story is no less marvellous plainly set.
