What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's didactic in spots and melodramatic in others, but Disconnect's strong cast helps make it a timely, effective exploration of modern society's technological overload.

Draco L Dec 14, 2018 The three different but overlapping stories were unnecessary. I lost interest at first, but it was more watchable as it went on. I don't really care for this style of movie in general, and this was average at best. It would have been better if they had just the made the movie on the cyberbullying story. Finn S Nov 25, 2018 This is an interesting and effective movie that catches you by the heart and then makes you think about the implications for your own life. The story is well-crafted and the acting is uniformly excellent. I am surprised it is not better known. A hidden and complex gem for the online era. See more
Rey W Mar 5, 2017 3 stories about the darker side of technology and the effect it can have on people, this is not a feel good film
Ron G Jan 14, 2017 Powerful. I could relate with a person from each "story."
Leia S Aug 21, 2013 "Disconnect" is one of the most relevant, timely, and thought-provoking films of the modern age. The more I thought about this movie, the more I really loved it. It is a slower pacer that leads up to an explosive finale but I found myself engaged by all of the storylines presented. It's one of those movies that shows multiple stories with different characters but with one common theme: the dark side of technology. The three storylines intertwine in subtle ways that don't feel over the top and add to the realism of the story. The drama in this movie is set up with intensity and is rivetingly real. All of the performances are great and I did genuinely feel like I was watching real human beings. I will say Jason Bateman was the stand out performance for me and this film is a great example to remind us that he really has range has an actor. I won't say the film is an easy one to watch, on the contrary, it can be pretty tough to take in, but it is one that shows engagingly tense drama and demands to be seen with socially relevant themes.
