It's summer, and Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) is looking forward to playing video games and spending time with his friends. However, Greg's dad (Steve Zahn) has other plans: He's decided that some father-son bonding time is in order. Desperate to prevent his dad from ruining summer vacation, Greg pretends he has a job at a ritzy country club. But Greg's plan backfires, leaving him in the middle of embarrassing mishaps and a camping trip gone wrong.

Critics Consensus

Overly familiar and a bit too reliant on slapstick, the sitcom-like Dog Days fails to improve upon previous installments and will likely appeal to few outside its target audience.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is probably the most inoffensive kid's film you're likely to see this summer. And that's a good thing.

These kids clearly had the time of their lives making this, with its gee-whiz sense of humor and clever integration of animation connecting the characters to their hand drawn literary counterparts.

The best Diary of a Wimpy Kid film of the trilogy. One of the better trilogy finales. It was actually quite decent, I don't get why this film has a lot of hate. Pretty underrated film. Zachary Gordon does another great job is believable as Greg Heffley. Rating: 5.6/10

This is good but, not as good as the first two.

With a story that we've all heard before, lackluster characters, and jokes so reliant on potty humor, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is a weak and forgettable installment to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise.

The books are very funny and the movies were meant to be funny too. But the film is as bad as the acting.
