Wimpy Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), now in seventh grade, thinks he has it all together. He has mastered middle school and gotten rid of the Cheese Touch. However, Greg's older brother, Rodrick (Devon Bostick), is itching to cut him down to size. He gets the perfect opportunity when their mother (Rachael Harris) tries to force the boys to bond. Rodrick may be Greg's chief tormentor, but he feels his constant pranks are just what his little brother needs to prepare him for life's hard knocks.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Moderately witty and acceptably acted, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 isn't much worse than the first installment.

It's an episodic film, rather less interesting than its British director David Bowers's earlier work as an animator in Britain and America. Go to Full Review

If your kid loves the books, then he/she may very well enjoy the film but likely on a lesser level. Go to Full Review

Even though this new movie is under another director, it feels very much like the first film. The characters are great, being both relateable and extreme. Go to Full Review

Rey L Dec 28, 2018 This movie improves upon the first. This movie is a great family film that can make your family laugh also, teaches you a valuable lesson. Making this film a hit for the family. See more
Hermione S Dec 27, 2018 Learns mistakes of the first to deliver a more entertaining story. Child acting is watchable like the first and doesn't flop like sequels tend to do. Rodrick Rules is a casual fun film watched in light mood. 70% See more
George R Dec 27, 2018 I think the long lasting battle between Greg and his brothers is a good idea for a comedy movie.
Hagrid R Nov 3, 2018 Was ok i suppose, daughter enjoyed it...
Hermione S Sep 26, 2018 This film is a beautiful work of art. I would recommend this film to everyone I meet. I have seen this movie 273 times. Very good, oscar worthy even. I was, in fact, very disappointed this was not nominated. The acting was phenomenal and the story was interesting and kept me entertained. The cinematography is so playful and impressive. Writing this review makes me want to watch it for the 274th time. I truly wept when I saw this the first time in theaters. It was an out-of-body experience. I swear the world turned and the ocean collapsed at my feet. I have been told that this makes no sense. So let me explain. The world is actually collapsing. This movie shook me to the core and I am the world. THe world is collasping. My heart is bleeding fromt he inside. Please watch this. Please. See more
Ron S Aug 14, 2018 With the predictability setting cranked up on high, and the humor/characters even less funny than the previous film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules is sequel no one deserves to see. See more
