A more than competent, fugue-like manipulation that freshens familiar components with a tricky structure. Go to Full Review

So while Demonic expertly delivers all the bumps in the night that fans of this genre love, it is also haunted by its own paradoxical narratology, engendering something slyly manipulative and deeply irrational Go to Full Review

There are a few decent ideas that are fairly well executed, but there is also a lot that is overly familiar, and stereotypical to the point of feeling moribund. Go to Full Review
John Noonan FILMINK (Australia) Jan 1, 2016
Doing so much that's been done before, with little room left for anything truly original, Demonic is ultimately a flat experience. Go to Full Review
Charlie Oughton Starburst Sep 3, 2015
8/10
The Will Cannon-directed movie is a whodunit come haunted house caper come satanic stormer and despite these being familiar themes, the actors and editing ensure that it's a scream. Go to Full Review
Katherine McLaughlin The List Aug 30, 2015
2/5
Despite the screenplay's crafty curve-balls there's still a distinct sense of dj vu as each thread is drawn together, while an unconvincing police slip-up is inserted to help drag the story out. Go to Full Review

Theodore M Mar 23, 2019 A film that should have been better than what it was. A decent story and setting is ruined by overbearing music and over stylisation. A shame as there is a decent movie in there somewhere. See more
Luke W Jan 18, 2019 Formulaic, desperately dull, hackneyed effort with neither a redeeming feature nor a remotely interesting character. It is unable even to sustain the lazy, tired, old "hand-held camera"cliche without dropping the illusion whenever it becomes inconvenient to the crew. See more
Theodore M Aug 29, 2018 Great movie! Kept me interested throughout. Took two popular premises, made them one new story line. Acting was fantastic... Maria Bello can be awful or great. In this one, she was great. All of the actors were. Perfect cast for this movie. I love the twist at the end. The plot - murders, amateur ghost hunters (which is HUGE these days), and possession all rolled into one - was expertly done to not be hokey. The script and direction couldn't have been better. The twist at the end was satisfying. There was nothing I didn't like about this movie. See more
Ron W Jul 31, 2018 The film's premise is a straightforward concept that incorporates classic, overdone horror tropes with slices of Gen X flavor, in the form of found footage - as in documentary footage recovered from the scene. The dual concepts, although not original, are offered up in a clever parallel time line. It creates a sort of murder mystery aspect, broken up by standard paranormal horror moments next to found footage sequences. To a small degree the mixture sometimes feels disjointed, but the back and forth does break up any monotony that would otherwise be present. The cast give quality performances, the line up consists of recognizable faces, and known names. There is a glare of underdevelopment to the characters, that if a bit of tweaking had been done, could have really became full-bodied portrayals. Still there is enough to make them relatable. Special effects are the typical gimmicks one expects in these kind of films. Shock gags and sound bites meant to give a fright are over used and often fall flat. Still "Demonic" has its moments of genuine chills, and the gore elements are quality. Think "Insidious" -esque trickery, just a few more misses. The horror moments run the gambit of "see it coming" to "cool and creepy". Overall the film is a mediocre but watchable horror flick with some quality actors, refreshing concepts, entertaining climax, and enough death to hit that ghoulish spot. It does have some redundancy issues, and a cloud of "know what's going to happen before it happens", but the movie gives enough to make it enjoyable. See more
Leia S May 22, 2018 The acting was decent and very well done on a low budget but the overall movie was plain.
Poe S Feb 6, 2018 there's a a thing or 10 that doesnt really work with the script, a rushed effort to bank in on the conjuring with all the tropes reinstalled, but somehow it kind of works. Even the exhausted idea to make it a mix between shoulder-camera reality style and pure horror drama is less irritating than it could have been. It presses all its scare buttons with a certain aptitude, even though, at the end of the day, the whole thing doesnt make that much sense. But it was good dark fun. See more
