Novelist Harry Block (Woody Allen) has become a success by turning his family and friends' lives into fodder for his books. Due to his novels' popularity, the university that once kicked Harry out has asked him to return for a ceremony that will honor him. As Harry sets out for the trip, he is confronted by his fictional characters, as well as real people who no longer want anything to do with him, and he learns how deeply his overly candid stories have affected those around him.

Certain echoes from Allen's own tabloid ferment get channeled through bombastic speakers here. Go to Full Review

Deconstructing Harry is abrasive, complex, lacerating and self-revelatory. It's also very funny, most of the time. Go to Full Review

No single Woody Allen film ever sums up everything, or could, and what is fascinating is to watch him, year after year, making the most personal of films, and hiding himself in plain view. Go to Full Review

A reminder of a time when Woody Allen made films that were forces of energy, bundles of fun, and bubbling with ideas, ingenuity and a real surplus of humour. Go to Full Review

Ron R Oct 18, 2017 #woodyallenretro Podcast Project Absolutely fantastic with an AMAZING CAST - like husbands and wives the raw emotional energy and rauchy comedy sets this apart from most of Woody's works in a refreshing and creative way. With so much to praise one only wishes Woody would let loose more with these really brash and buckwild ideas - as he still has the writing and skillset to make it more than just dirty jokes and profanity - in our top 5 of woody films easily See more

Luke W Sep 19, 2007 Woody Allen in fine form. Harry Block is a writer, a writer with writer's block. He has a tendency to use experiences and people from his life in his books, a device that annoys some of his friends. Now he is about to receive an award from the university he was kicked out of, causing memories to come flooding back. Written and directed by Woody Allen, and he is in fine form. Mixing some great nostalgic pieces and deeper thoughts with brilliantly funny, off-the-wall humour, Deconstructing Harry brings Allen's two halves - the dramatist and the comedian - together in a wonderful combination.
