What to Know

Critics Consensus

A derivative movie where the scares are few and things don't make much sense.

The title refers to a town as well as a state of mind. Neither is worth a detour. Go to Full Review

So bad it's almost painful. Skip it. Go to Full Review

It begins with not one but two prologues; one character turns up out of nowhere, his introduction no doubt left on the cutting-room floor; and the paltry 85-minute running time includes 15 minutes of end credits. Go to Full Review

All the initial criticisms remain spot on: the undercooked script, the paper-thin characters, and a shortage of scares. Pushing past that, however, there is still the chance for some meager fun in this insubstantial but attractive ghost story. Go to Full Review

It is hard to imagine that Liebesman is at fault: His "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" prequel is one of the best horror films of the 21st century. Yet here he whiffs. Go to Full Review

Obviously funding for this film was supplied by energy providers like Edison, DWP and PECO who must have known that one look at Darkness Falls will make everyone flick on the light switch - and it won't be to ward off the Tooth Fairy. Go to Full Review

Kylo S Mar 26, 2019 A lot of people didn't like this movie. I can understand why though. Yes it's silly but I still enjoyed it.
Kylo L Nov 30, 2018 Some bad acting but if u can get past that great story and imagery, pretty kid friendly too besides one F bomb in the end.
Harry M Feb 6, 2018 Why does this movie even exists? I saw it twice, and both time i forgot what i just saw the second it is over. It's like it has been churned by a movie generator machine (which it was) like painting by numbers (which it is). See more
Harry M Mar 15, 2017 Predictable from frame A to frame Z and only intermittently enjoyable on a so-bad-it's-good basis. It's more unintentionally funny than it is scary; worse than that, it's boring. "Darkness Falls" should be viewed only as an alternative to sleep medication. See more
Ron M Jan 28, 2017 It starts off reasonably effectively and a nice idea to have a horror movie with a twist on The Tooth Fairy legend. But the film really deterioriates in the second half and it becomes a tiresome chase about (I think they ran out of ideas!) See more
Ron R Jul 17, 2011 The film may have made money but it deserved more depth and focus. I had read user reviews and thought this would be much better than this. The film is quite over the top with a long boring no surprise plot line. The opening of the film was the only interesting part of the film. The concept changes over the course of the film but who cares as this film is a waste of talent. I thought this film may have grown into one of those cult status films over the years, but sadly this is one of those bad/terrible films that should be forgotten. THe central villain is poorly managed and just feels silly, not scary. I'm shocked that this film was some what successful, there are better horror films that have failed at the box office. I would give this one a giant miss or you can laugh at how bad the acting is. 17/08/2018. See more
