Too much about the movie is just amateurish. Go to Full Review

Cthulhu isn't awful, but it isn't particularly compelling either, as Glidark and Cogswell make their message so plain that it robs the story of its broader mysteries. Go to Full Review

As the creepy gives way to the criminal, and ultimately to the genuinely supernatural, Cthulhu maintains its grounding in the sort of real-world interests that holds one's attention without shocking demonstrations like dismemberment or decapitation. Go to Full Review

High on ambition and originality and the closest we've come to a true H.P. Lovecraft film. Go to Full Review

It's not a monster movie, CTHULHU is, is a deep character study about one man coming to grips with his past and the unforeseeable future that lies ahead of him. Like most Lovecraftian lore...it's serious dramatic horror. Go to Full Review
Maitland McDonagh Miss FlickChick Mar 3, 2009
Lovecraft's The Shadow Over Innsmouth looms largest in this offbeat film's influences, and while it can't be called faithful ... it does have an authentically doom-haunted atmosphere. Go to Full Review

Apr 9, 2019 This film is more 90's coming out gay angst and far less Lovecraft. Not only is the acting campy at best, the few moments that could have been great horror are all over shadowed and drowned out by the actual narrative on the film. If you take out a handful of lines, and a few props this is a coming out story and nothing to do with Cthulhu. Greatly misleading, and poorly done. See more
Dec 31, 2018 I question whether anyone who praises this movie as being in the spirit of Lovecraft, has read any of his works. Terrible writing, terrible acting, and terrible filming, if you want Lovecraft, save your time, read him instead of watching this drivel. See more
Kylo W Oct 14, 2018 Hey, more liberal infused Hollywood garbage, and this isn't even Hollywood this time. They literally touch base on 3 hard left wing liberal issues in less than 5 mins in the beginning. Why not just make a movie about what you want to say instead of dragging well known popular source material through the mud just so some people who wouldn't give your movie about your real message a second thought get tricked into watching your liberal garbage. Thanks for the waste of time. Hopefully the guy who lost his pants, no pun intended, learned his lesson about making a hidden undertone garbage movie. See more
Rey S Mar 30, 2017 First: Weird, beautifully shot, atmospheric, absurd, creepy, essentially everything that makes a Lovecraftian story Lovecraftian. It's also a really cool allegory for how uncomfortable it is for a gay man to visit his religious family in the boonies. See more
