This is a story that's been told a thousand times, sometimes with Kris Kristofferson in it, and sometimes not, and it just doesn't bring anything new to the party. Go to Full Review

Despite his overtly sloven nature, Bridges still manages to imbue his signature charm to help "Bad" be presentable in any situation. There's a pain suppressed deep behind the booze and packs of cigarettes that Bridge can effortlessly sell the audiences. Go to Full Review

Bridges has played characters like this all-time-low type before, most notably in The Fisher King, except none of them have the same sense of drained and desperate humanity that he displays here. Go to Full Review

Anakin L Apr 27, 2019 This is a sweet and believable film about real people. The story is anything but original, and yet it is done very nicely, with kind, genuine performances and a majestic Jeff Bridges. One very good move is that the director and screenwriter put most of the exaggeration and cliches at the beginning of the movie in order for us to "get' the characters. In doing so, the movie got more interesting and realistic as it went on. See more
Nov 21, 2018 Extremely good movie, strong, yet sentimental!!!
Finn R Aug 3, 2018 Wonderful movie about love, music, following your dreams and being yourself. Jeff Bridges didn't win an Oscar for nothing! If you don't like Country Western music at all, it might not be for you. I do, though, so I also love the Soundtrack. Jeff plays the guitar and sings himself. Colin Farrell does some singing and playing and he does it very well. Who knew! Maggie Gyllenhaal is a delight in this. So natural and honest is her performance, she moved me to tears. See more
Jun 18, 2018 Crazy Heart is a superbly acted movie that transcends the story. Any less of a performance by Jeff Bridges or Maggie Gyllenhaal would have made this a sub-par film. Story-wise it never connects with me. Not enough time is spent on specific emotional elements between Bad and Tommy, Bad and his son or even Bad and Jean. However, you can extract the pain from Jeff's performance alone. He was extremely worthy of his Best Actor Oscar. While I've seen him in a rugged role before, he takes a character that is clearly meant to exhibit a painful presence and, in spite of the strength of the story, makes you see and almost feel his pain. Draco S May 2, 2018 I admit that I was hoping for the composition of music to be better, but really the thing that shines here is how believable Jeff Bridges is as "Bad" Blake. He has down the southern grit, charm, and raunchiness down quite well, and the film itself is a journey, even if at the end it feels more like a ticket to Red Cloud, Nebraska than to a soul drenching Niagara Falls, but that may have been the point. Best take away from the film is that not everything will fall into your lap just because you make changes for the better, but your life will improve, and it's worth it. See more
Hermione W May 1, 2018 that's good, bad.. Crazy Heart The bonding projected since the beginning, of each individual character with the protagonist is so pure and innocence that it doesn't fit into the "social" boundary which helps this feature fly onto new and fearless territories. Scoot Cooper's smart adaptation from Thomas Cobb's novel is the core strength of this feature where even Scott's brilliant execution skills fail to surpass the way it conveys the message comfortably to the audience. Addition to that, the performance is the highlight of this feature that is outdrawn beautifully by Jeff Bridges; as the protagonist, and Maggie Gyllenhaal as a supporter. Crazy Heart never had something fresh or intriguing concept in its first place to bedazzle the audience but its simplicity and details towards the mannerism of the characters, is what something one can explore.
