"Crash" is about the strange lure of the auto collision, provoking as it does the human fascination with death and the tendency to eroticize danger. Most motorists will slow down to stare at the scene of a collision; they may feel their pulses quickening and become aware of the fragility of their own bodies. The characters of "Crash" carry this awareness a step further, cherishing and nurturing it. For them, a car collision is a sexual turn-on, and a jolting life force they come to crave.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite the surprisingly distant, clinical direction, Crash's explicit premise and sex is classic Cronenberg territory.

It risks being laughed at, and there is a definite, tiny grain of Razzie absurdity that is a part of its weirdly hypnotic high-porn torpor. Go to Full Review

[A] necessarily disturbing and equally profound inquiry into human desire, however self-destructive. Go to Full Review

For a movie obsessed with the connection between sexual intercourse and car accidents, David Cronenberg's Crash could hardly be more stationary. Go to Full Review

While the bodies of these David Cronenberg characters are fusions of technology and skin, the acts that they engage in are also a sort of fusion. Go to Full Review

Somehow, its start hooks me with its original premise extracted from the fictional engine of J.G. Ballard, but I'm afraid its erotic vehicle of symphorophilia loses fuel and crashes on repetitive roads. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Han G Mar 18, 2019 weird, even for Cronenberg but pretty cool 7/10
Anakin S Aug 7, 2018 Wow. This movie was depraved, dark and all-together unnecessary. Yet quality actors somehow agreed to partake in its making. Hard to believe. This movie is built on such an outlandish premise so as to make it intriguing on one level yet darkly disturbing on every other level. See more
Kylo W Feb 14, 2018 This movie is too sophisticated even for this Rotten Tomatoes clique, members of which consider themselves critics. A perfect choice for a St. Valentine viewing if you ask me. See more
Kylo R Dec 28, 2017 When I saw this movie years ago I remember being indifferent towards it. I didn't like or hate it. I remember it though. So Cronenberg created memorable images. The story was rather dull. I don't remember that. See more
Han W Nov 27, 2017 bizarre film about freaks who get turned on by car crashes. alot of sex and alot of cars crashing. weird but cool i guess, personally i dont enjoy car crashes See more
Han S Aug 18, 2017 This is not an easy story to put on the screen, and should maybe be left that way. The film is cheap and shallow, with no depth and no explanation in any form as to what its about. After 30 minutes, the film loses direction and loses your attention. If you like getting off on dull celeb sex scenes for over 90 minutes, then this is for you. See more
