In this third sequel to "Planet of the Apes," the apes turn the tables on the human Earth population when they lead a revolt against their cruel masters in the distant year of 1990. By doing this it creates the time loop that leads to the first film. "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" is cinematically etched in broad, brash strokes slashing social satire and science fiction suspense with large-scale spectacle.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is as angry and relevant as any of its predecessors, but budget constraints and a stale script rob this revolution of the scope it requires.

I'm tempted to comment that reports of the Hollywood film's death have been exaggerated. It is alive and well and flourishing on the Planet of the Apes. Go to Full Review

The darkest and most violent chapter in a series that had fairly distinguished itself already with its dark subject matter and disturbing imagery. Go to Full Review

Abraham R Jan 10, 2019 Despite what everyone says about this film, it's still my favourite Apes film of them all. The dark atmosphere and disturbing imagery helps it to stand out from the others, which ultimately makes it stronger. Roddy McDowall (Caesar) does an excellent job at selling his role as well, showing both the emotional side of his character, and the vengeful side perfectly. Absolutely fantastic. See more
Albus G Jan 2, 2019 I get the idea but overall it feels quite mawkish and sketchy. The battle scenes are boring as hell and far too long considering that there is practically no actual storyline in the second half. See more
Hermione W Sep 11, 2018 In my opinion, it's not as good as the first 3 films (it's hard to make a sequel as good as the first films); But even so, it's a very good movie, with fantastic scenes, good special effects and a moving and captivating story; In addition, the film has a great merit for having managed to deal with a character so conplex and with a rather sad and complicated past. But, as I said, this is likely to be the second worst film in the saga due to the development of the story (because it is very slow and a bit boring), as there are many scenes that remain open and are not exclarmed in the last movie. But even so, it's a great movie that everyone should see at least once in their lives. Highly recommend. See more
Abraham S Aug 9, 2018 Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is a decent film. It is about Caesar who kick-starts a revolution that pits chimps against humans. Roddy McDowall and Don Murray give okay performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. J. Lee Thompson did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the action and adventure. See more
Draco L Apr 11, 2018 Recently watched the Blu Ray version and really enjoyed it. Better than I remember . Very dark, but as usual the apes films, it's got a lot to say and does a good job in mixing politics with entertainment See more
Hermione W Jan 21, 2018 In conquest,a disease has killed all the cats and dogs leaving humans with no pets, to replace them, people begin to keep apes as pets, but soon they are used as slave labor, one of them however is Caesar the offering of Zira, he leads a rebellion against the evil humans. Man vs ape in the ultimate revolution is the plot of this movie. This film has one of the best ape endings, raw in its emotions and rage. See more
