Critics Consensus

Zoe Saldana has the chops but she's taken out by erratic and sloppy filmmaking.

The jittery action aesthetic is a bit grating (three cuts minimum per roundhouse kick), but the spectacularly named Olivier Megaton still manages to deliver the goods. Go to Full Review

Filling the holster on this occasion is Zoe Saldana, an actress who is leagues better than the material she is given here. Go to Full Review

Acclaimed writer Luc Besson (The Professional, Taken, The Fifth Element) co-writes another action-packed movie that even with a few outrageous moments is still a smart, sexy thriller with a good story that propels Saldana's star power. Go to Full Review

Once you get past the clichés and the reckless obsession of its heroine, it’s a classic Besson action fest, a souped-up drive-in action thriller with exotic locations and dynamic set pieces and action sequences ... Go to Full Review

A midrange action product with violence to spare, reasonable star power, lots of momentum, even more violence, and heaps of sex appeal, all tempered for mass consumption by a PG-13 rating. Go to Full Review

Rey R May 17, 2018 Saw it on TV. No. No. No. Animal cruelty (she uses 2 dogs as weapons and keeps them caged otherwise). Main character does not elicit sympathy at all, in my opinion. By the end, I was kind of hoping this 'live by the sword' hitwoman would also 'die by the sword.' Ugh. And fight sequences are typically lame (like in "Taken" where the actors are clearly not equipped to pull off believable fight scenes). Just. no. See more
Leia R May 3, 2018 Colombiana is a thrilling revenge film with Zoe Saldana. After the Bourne Trilogy and Taken, but before John Wick, there was Colombiana. A revenge film with high octane action and plenty of kills, Colombiana was pretty ground breaking at the time. While the hyper speed pace remains, the superfluous jump cuts are quite dated. Colombiana remains a fun action thriller like no other. Zoe Saldana leads the charge as the highly skilled assassin that is equally sexy and lethal. Colombiana persists as my personal favorite Saldana film. She is cool and clever as this heroine. Saldana made for the perfect action star in Colombiana. Unfortunately, Oliver Megaton is not a great director, so his style muddles Colombiana overall. The movie is quick paced, but overly simplistic. The performances are believable, but the dialogue from Luc Besson is rather underwritten. The edits are way too frequent ruining otherwise interesting shots. The music is exciting, but feels melodramatic at times. The explosions and gunfights are very cool, but overblown. Colombiana is still an exhilarating thriller today. It just has its obvious flaws. Hermione P Mar 22, 2018 Movie Review The movie "Colombiana" was produced August 26, 2011 and directed by Olivier Megaton. The lead role is played by Zoe Saldana playing Cataleya, she won a Teen choice award and an ALMA for outstanding actress in feature film. Other main characters are Danny (boyfriend), Ross (special agent), Emilio, Marco, and Don Luis (all 3 bad guys). This movie starts out in Bogota as Cataleya as a school girl and her parents are being murdered in front of her and she has to run away from the bad guys that killed her parents. Than she's older living in Chicago with her uncle and grandma and she become an assassin working her way up to kill the people that killed her parents. This movie really shows women independence and how women can take care of them self's and they don't need a guy to protect them, and it really shows how women can do a lot for themselves, minus the whole killing and violence part. It also shows you that women need to be strong because men usually look at women as weak. I think this movie deserves the 6/10 stars because it really shows you women are strong and how things happen, but you have to be strong. I really liked the story of revenge and the loyalty she had for her family, because I am really loyal to my family, to me family is everything, so I really liked the story line of her fighting for her family and getting that revenge back. Leia G Feb 18, 2018 Ah! Besson and his wunderkinder that grow up too fast! It's an action movie, what did you expect?
Theodore S Jan 4, 2018 Preposterous movie/script (Luc Besson, what the hell man?). Right from the beginning, when they just leave the girl alone sitting there and don't even tell her to hide. But then, of course, we get the most extremely shameless "Mary Sue" (or should I say "Maria Susana") moment in film history. After that it jumps from absurd, to ridiculous, to ludicrous. I gave it a star because Zoe managed to keep my attention throughout this insane story. Oh and, "Cataleya"?. I don't care what fucking flower they named her after, I can assure you there isn't a single human being with that name. See more
