On the edge of the Antarctic Circle, a ship approaches a desolate island, far from all shipping lanes. On board is a young man who is on his way to assume the post of weather observer and live in solitude at the end of the earth. He finds no trace of the man he has been sent to replace, just a deranged castaway who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. For the next twelve months, his entire world will consist of a deserted cabin, trees, rocks, silence and the surrounding sea.

Critics Consensus

Cold Skin exerts a strong visual pull, even if all that icy atmosphere isn't a truly satisfying substitute for a story that dares to go somewhere different.

The actors... invest their roles with conviction and craft, even if the story ultimately doesn't quite reward such seriousness of approach. Go to Full Review

While the film is genuinely horrific at times, some underwhelming special effects occasionally blight the exquisite imagery. The story, too, falls flat, with few surprises and little to ultimately say about war or the human condition. Go to Full Review

Cold Skin is a beautiful dark film that feels like it unfortunately is missing something story-wise for it all to be absolutely fascinating. The acting and practical effects show great talent ... Go to Full Review

It is doomed to lie in that limbo of productions that, despite having a good number of elements in its favor, can fall into a sad oblivion fueled by its lack of "ground". [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Rey W Apr 10, 2019 At its core, I get what the film is trying to say and it really is admirable, but it's a bit too obvious, too quickly and lacks subtlety; so much so that it hardly comes as a surprise when the "big revelation" is made. More importantly, however, is that it focuses too much time on the build up to the aforementioned revelation, as well as the more action-y parts, that it forgets to delve deeper and explore the creatures and characters, which could have been fascinating. Because, without a doubt, the most engaging scenes are those where the humans are either interacting with each other or with the creatures (in a way that doesn't involve butchering them). That being said, the premise is great and there are still a few captivating scenes that hint at what it could have been; the acting's on-point from all involved (Stevenson's superb, and Aura Garrido does an impressive job of conveying emotion from under layers of prosthetics and makeup); and the location is brilliantly chosen, really adding to that dark feel. It's unfortunate that the ending is so frustrating and that it couldn't find a way to focus on the more interesting aspects of the story that could have elicited more emotional engagement. Yes, its reach exceeds its grasp, but I'd argue that it has its merits. At the very least, it's not boring. See more

Hermione S Feb 1, 2019 It is one of the best movies I have seen lately. Even if there are some slip ups it still makes for a great movie.
Leia W Dec 26, 2018 I watched with little hope, thinking that it was another rate B type movie, that I was mistakenly passed by my friends the image quality and the light convinced me firstly that I was wrong , and then the dialogues and the history, unraveling it self made be sure that it would be a great movie... Have his flaws but ergo, the movie is very good , with a very good history, acting and...the end There is something that is missing I can't explaint it ...but it there is something missing that would make this filme so memorable See more
Finn R Dec 22, 2018 It is a solid horror flick for any Lovecraft fan.
Hermione W Dec 7, 2018 Spanish, bad imitation of the equally ugly "The Shape of Water". If by now he didn't waste time too often in Hollywood, I'd have been intrigued to see it directed by Herzog. (Mauro Lanari) See more
