What to Know

Critics Consensus

With a supremely talented cast and just enough midlife drama to add weight to its wildly silly overtones, City Slickers uses universal themes to earn big laughs.

The funny sequences and dumb jokes in "City Slickers" are so much more entertaining than the male-bonding blather that you wonder what the filmmakers had in mind. Go to Full Review

There are a few amusing moments, provided largely by Jack Palance as a Marlboro Man type, but most of the comedy is a blend of silly slapstick and pallid pop psychology. Go to Full Review

George W Feb 26, 2019 This is one of Billy Crystals finest films, Monsters Inc notwithstanding and it holds up brilliantly even after 27 years. Everyone in the cast is fantastic and appear to really be having a blast during the filming of the movie. https://latetothegame.blog/2018/11/22/key-movies-of-my-life-city-slickers-1991/ See more
Anakin S Apr 14, 2017 Really fun midlife crisis comedy. The cast are obviously having a good time, it's infectious.
Hermione W Jul 19, 2007 Watched this several times growing up and gave it a rewatch recently before going on a long trip the Grand Canyon. It definitely holds up. Some of the more adult themes were a little more clear now and probably made the movie even better. I added a half star from my previous rating years ago. See more
Han L Jan 1, 2007 Very funny movie. The sequel is always brilliant.
Ron W Jun 6, 2005 City Slickers (1991) I always really enjoyed this movie. I'm a huge fan of Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern and Jack Palance so it already has it going for that. Even though it's about middle-age I still feel like I identify with it. I will watch this movie any time it's on. See more
