In 1933, private investigator Mike Murphy (Burt Reynolds) is shocked when his partner, Dehl Swift (Richard Roundtree), is killed by thugs working for Primo Pitt (Rip Torn). Furious, Murphy asks his former police partner, Lt. Speer (Clint Eastwood), for help in putting a stop to the mobster. Though the two men now despise each other, Speer reluctantly agrees to help Murphy solve the murder -- while both court the private eye's secretary, Addy (Jane Alexander).

... the movie's never as good as it might have been. Go to Full Review

An amiable but decidedly lukewarm confection geared entirely around the two star turns. Go to Full Review

It's certainly not a subtle movie, but with memorable performances, ludicrously over-the-top one-liners and amiable zaniness, it qualifies as a lot of fun. Go to Full Review

Bottom line: Good roles for the stars, nice production values, and an impressive supporting cast, but no thrills and only minor laughs. Go to Full Review

Burt and Clint might not go down as one of the great comic teams in history, but as a private investigator and a cop in City Heat, they bring fireworks to a lackluster season. Go to Full Review

Harry S Dec 19, 2018 Despite starring two great actors in Clint eastwood and Burt Reynolds City Heat falters all through its running time. Because the script plays on the often taciturn nature of Eastwood's performances - channelling in particular his Dirty Harry persona - there's little chance for him and Reynolds to develop much chemistry on screen. This leaves the way open for a talented supporting cast to pick up the baton, but only Madeline Kahn, in a too-small role, rises to the challenge. It's the kind of part she could play in her sleep back then, but she still enlivens every scene she's in. Sadly, one winning performance doesn't really justify sitting through the rest of this muddled mess. A one time watch, if that, only if you are a massive fan of the two leads. See more
Harry L Jun 28, 2018 City Heat (1984) ? / ???? Clint and Burt are called in to investigate murder. Only problem is they hate each other's guts--like the people who've seen this movie. See more
Han S Dec 29, 2017 City Heat is a chaotic film. It is about a slick private eye and tough police lieutenant who team up to investigate a murder. Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds give disappointing performances. The screenplay is badly written. Richard Benjamin did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture. See more
Abraham M May 8, 2017 City Heat is what it is and that's all I wanted it to be. Watching it now, some thirty year later, I am not asking, "is this well acted" or even "does it make sense",; it has two of my all time movie heroes in it and I just sit back, take it, wax nostalgic and laugh. See more
Finn M Mar 19, 2017 Flawed, but definitely goofy enough to warrant a watch or two. Eastwoood and Reynolds are great together and do well, considering all they have to work with is 90 pages of one-liners. See more
Finn P Mar 12, 2017 It's a buddy movie with a nostalgic twist thrown in much like The Sting only ... Burt Reynolds. He's in one movie (like maybe The Naked Gun, as Lt. Frank Dreblin), and everyone else is in another. By the end of the effort one begins to have grown a tolerance for his look-at-me antics, but it takes a long time to get there. In the other movie, the one w/o him, everyone does just fine, particularly Jane Alexander. See more
