Critics Consensus

Silly premise notwithstanding, this is a well-made Hollywood movie: Thrilling and exciting action with just enough characterization.

It's more of a throwback to Horatio Alger's Ragged Dick, a rags-to-middle-class-respectability tale about the humble joy of old-fashioned decency. Go to Full Review

It's as corny as Kansas, but the mix of old fashioned heart and new fangled animatronic cyber tech will make this picture a winner for fathers and sons. Go to Full Review

All things considered, it is a well-wrought piece of entertainment, confidently paced, although its necessary subplots are little more than dutiful filler sandwiched between fight sequences. Go to Full Review

Apr 15, 2019 It is quite corny and highly predictable. However, it's really amusing. It's also visually amazing, you can almost smell the oil coating the robots' joints. It all seems quite real. The emotional rollercoaster that's driven by the ever-growing connection between Charlie and his son, Max, could make you cry if you relate to it strongly enough. The arc of Charlie, personified in Atom, is so positive and uplifting that even Aunt Debra ends up rooting for him. Not an easy feat. It's also always refreshing to see a solid African-American character in a support role who's not villanous and an evil cowboy. It's not that common, in my humble opinion. It's a well-rounded family film that'll be worth the popcorn and sodas you drink during it. See more

Mar 26, 2019 Quiet enjoyable movie. Story was simple, but at least it wasn't bad. And the robot action was pretty good. And finally, it worked. See more

Draco M Feb 7, 2019 Not bad, It was fascinating Childhood with my favourite actor Hugh jackman
Abraham P Jan 23, 2019 Incredibly entertaining movie. Imagine ROCKY mixed with TRANSFORMERS. This is what you get. Sounds pretty silly, right? However, this film surprised me on a lot of different levels. With state-of-the-art CGI, a convincing main lead and an exciting story, REAL STEEL offers enough action, suspense and thrills for it become a fun boxing movie. I enjoyed this movie. Check it out!
