Zem's spirited evocation of Paris bohemia, fin-de-siecle style, has turned the film into a box-office hit in France, as well as exciting debate about race relations. Go to Full Review

Visually handsome and for the most part thoroughly entertaining. Go to Full Review

If it's not much good as biography, the film is huge fun as a political comedy about race and entertainment. Go to Full Review

The clown acts themselves are of their time but feel fresh, kinetic and organic, delivered with energy and joie de vivre, a reminder of the beauty in the art of clowning around. Go to Full Review

Luke S Oct 6, 2018 This is a solid biography of Chocolat, the first black circus clown. The film is a bit too long, but it's interesting enough to hold my attention. See more
Jul 6, 2018 I would love to see this movie. It looks really good from the trailer, etc. However, I am unable to find it in the US for streaming and the only DVDs and Blue-Ray copies available are not for US/Canada Region 1 players. I live in hope that it will become available here too. See more
Finn S Aug 11, 2017 Somewhat traditional biopic of an unconventional figure. Reasonable, but ultimately forgettable.
Finn P Jul 3, 2017 An incredible story that never holds a dull moment. Very sad in hindsight, but the effectiveness of film's emotion, together with the high-quality performances, gives this film a bittersweet aftertaste. It's impressive in its stunts, performances and bravery. It's beautiful to just look at. The story leaves you with a heavy heart. But it's a story that the world needs to see. I've a soft spot for films about artist's and their art. This film rises to the top of them all. I don't know if it's because it's a French film, or simply because it's art created by talented and passionate people, but this movie will leave you smiling with tears in your eyes. A little sad. A little happy. And very much overjoyed that you finally know the story of Rafael Padilla and his life as the clown Chocolat. See more
Harry L Mar 29, 2017 A fascinating tale, and based on a true story - Wow. Very entertaining a wonderful mix of fun, laughter, love and the hard reality of challenging times. Moving you with moments of compassion that strikes at heart, and a reminder that good times are often fleeting and even taken for granted. Loved it! See more
Klovnit kohelsivat liikaa. Ranskankielestä aina plussaa. See more
