What to Know

Critics Consensus

Eric Rohmer's Chloe in the Afternoon doesn't need sparkly cinematic dross to discover unspoken, universal truths about relationships and love through filmmaking.

What is frequently described as rigor and austerity may be no more than polished aridity, polished pettiness. [Rohmer is] a clever traditionalist in a medium in which bourgeois worldliness can pass for much more. Go to Full Review

What makes Rohmer's films so sparkling and intelligent is the way in which he watches his characters. Nothing escapes him, and he uses the angle of a glance, the tilt of a head, the precise set of a mouth, in order to create wonderfully complex characters Go to Full Review

Poe W Jul 23, 2018 Last of Eric Rohmer's cycle of "Six Moral Tales", has Bernard Verley as Frédéric although happy with his job and marriage, he cannot seem to ponder about Chloe (Zouzou) someone to whom had decided to come back into his life to whom used to meet during their teenage years. As the movie progresses, Frederic begins to bond with Chloe much more than his wife, and he expresses which may or may not lead to anything more. Written and directed by Eric Rohmer. See more
Hermione L Mar 17, 2018 Very French film about mistresses and love. I don't feel compelled to see it again besides to view it as a period piece with some good fashion from the French 70s. See more
