Insurance agent Tim Lippe is sublimely naive. He has never stayed in a hotel, has never flown in a plane and has never even left his tiny Wisconsin hometown. Chosen to represent his company at a convention in Iowa, Tim meets three veteran attendees, who set him on course for a life-altering weekend of wild times and sweet temptation.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's as conventional as its Midwestern setting, but Cedar Rapids boasts a terrific cast and a script that deftly blends R-rated raunch and endearing sweetness.

Isn't a blazingly original comedy, but it has such a nice, tender-hearted feel to it I was won over and charmed. Go to Full Review

The risks Cedar Rapids takes may not always pay off, but as a general rule, I would advise spending 86 minutes of your life with the movie rather than the city itself. Go to Full Review

They don't let a joke go by without taking advantage of it and batting it with underhanded grace. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Luke W Dec 17, 2018 Loved it from start to finish.
Jun 18, 2018 Quirky, dry, at times vulgar, but this story of a coming-of-age insurance salesman (yes...I wrote that) played by the seemingly typecast Ed Helms as a naive, middle-aged man learning about love and business while trying to maintain his integrity and heart-of-gold. About as unreal as it gets, the story is adorable and sweet with well-written characters played by a talented ensemble including John C. Reilly, Isiah Whitlock and Anne Heche. This threesome embraces young-at-heart Tim Lippe while also learning a bit about themselves and the lives they've allowed themselves to get sucked into as tacky insurance salespeople. The result is a warped moral and an unlikely happy ending. See more
Harry L Jan 24, 2018 This is an interesting coming-of-age- movie for adults. It is in positive light, but not laugh out loud funny. I would watch this again because it is about a man just try to find his own identity. Tim is very relatable, for the sake that he believes that he has his whole life figured out, only to find that he is starting from the absolute bottom. See more
Albus M Dec 20, 2017 Sort of a fish out of water type of film. Despite the excessive debauchery on display here, this movie is simply delightful. Not many movies have personality so Cedar Rapids deserves some credit for that. Ed Helms is great here and John C. Reilly is simply a riot. See more
Hagrid L May 19, 2017 A rather cozy, sweet contraption all in all. More thoughtful than expected.
Han R May 11, 2017 The script is nothing riveting, what with the mostly obvious characterization and the surface commentary on the insurance industry, but the cast is really good and, in its small duration, the film manages to carry the viewer away and maybe even strike a heart-warming mood here and there.
