Jay Bulworth (Warren Beatty), a financially ruined senator, is now disillusioned with politics. The forlorn statesman orders a contract killing -- the target himself -- so his family will be able to collect a fortune from his insurance policy. Facing imminent death, a devil-may-care Bulworth speaks his mind in public, forsaking platitudes for honest but controversial observations. But when he falls in love with a hip young woman (Halle Berry), Bulworth urgently rethinks his impending murder.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Star and director Beatty's ambitious take on race and politics in 20th-century America isn't perfect, but Bulworth manages to provide more than its share of thought-provoking laughs.

It's a sharp, brave movie, a little ragged around the edges, but that's to its advantage. Go to Full Review

What gives Bulworth its unique character is that all this silliness is periodically punctuated by cogent, carefully thought-out mini-manifestos... Go to Full Review

…not enough attention has been paid to Bulworth, a flawed but pertinent film, set at a particular moment in time where cell-phones and the internet don’t exist, but The Simpsons do…a cogent, cynical, prophetic film… with a shock ending to boot... Go to Full Review

Bulworth is an angry and politically astute film. More than that, it is in many ways a liberating film. Go to Full Review

Hagrid W Feb 17, 2019 One of the worst movies i have ever seen! 15 full minutes of "Insane in the Membrain"? Really?
Jan 27, 2019 The best comedy movie ever made!
Ron S May 13, 2018 From my perspective, especially given today's political climate, one of the best ever movies of an over-wrought and truthful politician. I LOVE this movie. See more
Ron S Sep 8, 2017 Real PC. Look no further for hill and the Clinton Machine behind the scenes.
Kylo L Apr 18, 2017 So corny and very badly dated. The laughs don't hold up, but the satire still works fairly well. The message is strong, and important, and it has a good ending, so it still has some merit. See more
Kylo W Feb 23, 2017 I was happy to finally get around to a revisit of this comedy from Warren Beatty, in which he plays a jaded senator who suddenly decides to start telling the truth during his political speeches, which confuses, amuses and quite frankly frightens a lot of people. This one holds up really well and I won't let so much time pass between viewings next time. Recommended. See more
