Albert Brooks and Holly Hunter perform with such vitality, such comic neuroticism, that they at least blur the edges of their stereotypes.

As the talented but professionally thwarted news writer, Brooks is sensational, both vain and vulnerable.

Jane Craig is a feminist heroine in a way that few female romantic-comedy protagonists since have been, even the ones we consider strong and independent.

It's an intelligent, uproariously funny dissection of what really goes on in a TV newsroom, both on and off camera.

Revisiting Broadcast News now, it’s striking how little James L. Brooks got wrong about television news—and how much worse the industry has become at pretending otherwise.

A seriously smart romantic comedy that has the charm and sentimentality you would expect, but a serious, philosophical moral backbone that you may not. The characters are idiosyncratic and deal with personal failings and struggles in ways that are both relatable and unpredictable.

It deserved all Oscar nominations it got (especially for its exceptional script) and should have received another for best director too, considering how well Brooks understands his characters and draws impeccable performances from its three actors, who have an amazing chemistry together.

This was the movie that made me fall in love with Holly Hunter. It's just a great film with great performances. Maybe a bit dated in its depiction of the newsroom, but overall the relationships between the lead characters carry the movie.
