Critics Consensus

A marriage of genuine characters, gross out gags, and pathos, Bridesmaids is a female-driven comedy that refuses to be boxed in as Kristen Wiig emerges as a real star.

B

Sure, it neatly avoids a lot of the fluff found in many chick flicks and replaces it with crass shenanigans, but it adds touching moments when they're needed most, providing for a smart, less clichéd comedy.

Through a combination of smart performances and scurrilous gags Bridesmaids yanks the buddy comedy from the hands of its traditional owners.

Every lady who has ever been a bride, a bridesmaid, or a maid of honor should see this. You will either laugh at the moments that remind of your own wedding party or laugh thankfully that none of these characters were anyone of you or someone else.

2011 comedy about a U.S. wedding preparation and the shenanigans of the bridal party, the maid of honour and the bridesmaids. The film explores inadvertent jealousy between the brides oldest friend, Annie (Kristen Wiig) and a rich new friend on the block Helen (Rose Byrne). The bride in the middle of all this is Lillian (Maya Rudolph). The movie is surprisingly funny at times. I never thought I would find a group of Bridezillas hilarious but there are several funny scenes. The cast is littered with comics. Mainly American but the likes of Matt Lucas (U.K.) and Rebel Wilson (Australia) are cast. One of the main writers is the main stars character Annie (Kristen Wiig). The director Paul Feig has quite an extensive filmography of mainly 'chick-flick' comedies and does an admirable job here.

Another great comedy from Paul Feig. Bridesmaids is sure to make anyone laugh, myself included. No matter how many times you watch it, it's still a good movie. A classic.
