Four men are sentenced to hang in the small town of Rio Arriba, and Jim Douglass (Gregory Peck) is glad to see it happen. Jim believes the men murdered his wife and wants them to suffer. However, things go awry when the convicts escape from jail, kidnapping young Emma (Kathleen Gallant) as they gallop out of town. A search party forms with Jim in the lead, especially intent on catching them. He encounters each villain individually, growing closer to rescuing Emma and exacting his revenge.

It's a revisionist western that benefits from Peck's enormous presence to maintain the disturbing plot about justice, belief and revenge, without losing sight of some gorgeous panoramic views in CinemaScope. [Full review in Spanish]

Gregory Peck was the perfect expression of idealized cinematic manhood: Remote yet full of passion, stern but empathetic, skilled in the ways of violence but reluctant to employ them.

Good but not one of the best western films out there. It needs more action, but overall I liked it. Gregory Peck did a beautiful job playing the main role and I loved the twist in the end.
