And yet BPM (meaning beats per minute) is a beautiful film, full of drama and humour, love and politics, argument and action. Go to Full Review

It doesn't try to be a comforting film, and it certainly isn't. It's strident, unwieldy and confronting. Go to Full Review

Rebotini's dissonant, humming, house-inflected score - and the metronome-like heartbeats that underscore the action - are reminders that, even on their deathbed, a person has a pulse. In its dying gasps, the film grasps at life. Go to Full Review

The documentary-like feature of 120 BPM makes the film instantly appealing, and it is great the film does not shy away from portraying the worst, accentuating the frustration, anger, despair, and pain of the members of ACT UP-Paris and AIDS sufferers. Go to Full Review
Steve Cruz OUT FRONT Magazine (Denver) May 9, 2023
When the film jumps into the flurry and turmoil of a civil disobedience protest, it still comes down to the individuals whose stories the film is telling. It does so with gravity, humor, and affection. Go to Full Review

It’s proudly queer, deeply erotic even in the face of illness and mortality, passionately engaging and ultimately heart-breaking, stuffed to the brim with fervent debate... Go to Full Review

Mar 5, 2019 Raw, impactful, and insightful. I am absolutely stunned by how this movie was able to navigate the subject of the AIDS crisis with such grace. It was both personal and political, inspiring and realistic, and sexy and romantic. I was so immersed in the movie that I forgot it was in French and I was reading subtitles. An absolute must watch for anyone looking to be moved. See more
Ron R Mar 5, 2019 Ganhador do premio do júri em cannes de 2017. Filme sobre HIV, em tom documental... algumas vezes didático demais. See more
Leia P Jan 27, 2019 absolutely stunningly passionate and beautiful, watched it 5 times
Hermione S Aug 7, 2018 Highly ambitious but sorely disappointing drama set amidst the height of the AIDS epidemic protests in nineteen nineties Paris. The movie intercuts the blossoming romance between two members of the Act Up movement with group meetings, actual protest footage, reenactments and scenes of the cast presumably dancing in a club. A lot going on here without much emotional gravitas. The long scenes of the group meetings reminded me of Antonioni's Zabrieski Point. I hated Zabrieski Point! See more
Draco W Jul 22, 2018 It felt like real-life with the competing interests and tensions of ACT-UP in PARIS. It also captures the loss, love and desperation felt in that period! left me feeling respect for those who came before us to fight for HIV medication for the infected. The quiet ending credits made me reflect on those who had lost their lives to this terrible pandemic and still are losing their lives in countries without access to treatment. See more
Kylo W Jul 8, 2018 BPM is a romantic and political tribute to those who were victims of a tragic epidemic and human cruelty (by pharmaceutical companies and governments). It was a great wake up call that the speed of real humans dropping like flies is incomparable to the government taking any actions to do the right things. By reminding people that there are people like Marco and Sean who were infected when they were so young with so little awareness, and paying for the crime which is pure affection and innocence. The juxtaposition of Sean's liveliness during the two pride parades is devastating. He is so full of life, hope and love in the first parade scene, and he is practically already dead in the second fearing his imminent death. His counting of t-cells as a literal ticking bomb and the fading of rosiness in his cheeks in each minute of the movie is devastating. The short but passionate love between Sean and Nathan is powerful. Nathan, knowing Sean was positive still loves, without fearing for consequences. He loves without asking for eternity in return, and giving Sean the last chance to just love while he lives. I didn't quite get the scene where Thibault sleeps with Nathan... and what it meant for Nathan's character. Whatever that was, I'm still in love with Nathan as an actor and character. He left a lasting impression on me and made my heart flutter. I'm so looking forward to seeing him in other movies. See more
