What to Know

Critics Consensus

Part satire, part shockumentary, Borat gets high-fives almost all-around for being offensive in the funniest possible way. Jagshemash!

Borat's cultural learning is revealing, even if it doesn't adequately convey how it benefits glorious nation of Kazakhstan. Go to Full Review

In the tactics of Cohen, Charles and their collaborators ... there is a level of social insularity, sneering and intellectual sadism that is positively disturbing. Go to Full Review

Borat is funny, spleen-bursting funny, although you may catch yourself wondering if these are the kind of jokes you should be laughing at. Go to Full Review
Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News Nov 20, 2019
It wallows gleefully in its very un-PC humor, but that is part of what makes it work so well. Cohen and director Larry Charles make the unthinkable funny -- and in the process might just get you to think about racism, bigotry and sexism. Go to Full Review

Ron M Mar 17, 2019 You simply won't be able to last 3 minutes in this movie without rolling on the floor laughing in this beyond offensive but yet beyond hilarious experience. See more
Anakin G Dec 3, 2018 This is a hilarious movie and Sasha Baron Cohen is amazing. One of the reasons Borat works is because it doesn't belabor its jokes. It delivers the punch-lines then moves on. The movie is set up as a road trip, but each stop over has its own set of characters and comedic set pieces. The variation keeps things fresh and the relatively short running length (less than 90 minutes) ensures that Borat doesn't overstay its welcome. See more

Draco P Aug 23, 2018 Apart from the fight and pictures scenes, this movie is absolutely hilarious and quotable.
Kylo G Jul 12, 2018 I think with repeat viewings this film does lose some of its shock humour but you can understand why this film defined a generation. The memorable moments now feel a bit overplayed but the hidden camera still scenes still feel shocking. See more
