What to Know

Critics Consensus

A piece of lovely dreck, The Blue Lagoon is a naughty fantasy that's also too chaste to be truly entertaining.

The Blue Lagoon is closer to Robinson Crusoe Goes Club Med than to its original source. It's a fantasy island conceived at poolside in Beverly Hills and executed by tourists to the Fiji Islands. Shallow water, indeed. Go to Full Review

There have come to be certain conventions of the genre, and it's an annoyance that The Blue Lagoon keeps violating them. Go to Full Review

The Blue Lagoon is a lovely story, but even more, it's a story about love. Go to Full Review

Yes, the cinematography by Nestor Alamendros leaves you breathless, but the content makes your kids the same old stupid. Go to Full Review

There's a goofiness surrounding the whole ordeal, primarily due to the scripting and acting; the dialogue is mediocre and the performances aren't terribly convincing. Go to Full Review

Jan 27, 2019 The best romance movie ever made!
George S Aug 16, 2018 we all love fairy-tales, more or less.
Finn W Aug 14, 2018 I do not understand why nobody practically liked this movie. As it is possible classics like this will be classed with 9% while horrible movies like Sharknado has 85%. The Blue Lagoon is one of the best classics of the 80's, and one of the best rumors ever. Of course it's far from the best movie ever, but still pretty good. Gathering too much. I just did not like the ending. See more
Luke M May 17, 2018 This movie was so excellent and endearing. The people giving it bad reviews (including the critics) are being ridiculously immature. This is EXACTLY why the USA is looked at as having a bunch of prudes. I loved it because it shows a REALISTIC version of how two teens that know nothing about their bodies, sex, etc....discover how to do things. Of course they "discover" it quicker than in real life, its a movie and it would be 20 hours long if it was drawn out. Yes, they run around naked, they are on an island ALONE, who would they wear clothes? Its realistic. Also, everything, from how he discovers masturbation, to how to breastfeed their child is so realistic and I love it. To me, thats what made the movie endearing. I thought that Christopher Atkins acting was better than Brooke Shields, but he was older and she was only 15. I imagine that that movie wasn't easy to film for a lot of reasons. This is honestly one of my fav films. I really liked Return To The Blue Lagoon, but I LOVE this one. See more
Kylo S Dec 6, 2017 Captivating, visual and romantic, this wonderful movie portraying the true innocence of childhood when individuals are far away from civilization grow from children to teenagers. I was captivated all the way to its tragic end. See more
Draco R Nov 17, 2017 "The Blue Lagoon" is about eye candy, plain and simple
