This is a dark, sharply crafted and ultimately touching drama on teenage angst, as well as female camaraderie and rivalry, written with the kind of artistic maturity it takes many filmmakers years to acquire and hone. Go to Full Review

he film plays with a lot of high-school film tropes, but is smart enough to subvert them just enough to keep it feeling fresh. Go to Full Review

Han R Feb 2, 2019 Though at times a little predictable and at other times a little underdeveloped, this premiere feature from writer-actor-director Quinn Shephard nevertheless shows her tremendous promise as a filmmaker. In this coming of age tale that combines elements of pictures as diverse as "Eighth Grade," "Lolita" and "Carrie" (without the psychic aspects), Shephard explores topics ranging from mental health to emerging sexuality to inappropriate relationships to bullying in a thought-provoking yet entertaining vehicle. Shephard turns in a terrific performance in the lead role of a troubled and misunderstood teen, backed by an equally strong portrayal by Nadia Alexander as her mean girl rival. Nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for best first screenplay, this film is now available through various home viewing options. See more
Dec 15, 2018 Quinn Shephard is a director to look out for. Her directorial, writing and producing debut is condensed into an intense movie, filled with complicated characters and a 'common' story. The movie deals with tough adolescence topics and it does not shy away from showing characters that feel raw and real. The film is specifically considering that the director started working on the script at age 15. Definitely someone who can grow in future projects. See more
Draco P Nov 5, 2018 loved this! A great modern twist on The Crucible. Such amazing talent from Quinn Shepard and Nadia Alexander!
Finn P Apr 8, 2018 This first directoral film from Quinn Shephard, ostensibly based on Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, loses its bearings and careens itself into the abyss of what high school writers should rightly be called, which is not very good. Grounded on a few vague literary references, this film carries few of the creative moments in those books throughout the performances and reduces its actors into mean girl redundancies with (unintelligible) daddy issues and an obsessiveness over impressing young boys through bra-and-panty gyrating and promiscuity. Hagrid R Mar 26, 2018 To be fair, this movie is entertaining whilst watching. However, it's more of a fluff piece than a substantial melodrama that will stick with you. This movie feels much more like a fantasy of Quinn Shephard's that she decided to write herself into. The characters are just too undeveloped and the plot too weak for the plot twist towards the end, resulting in the whole movie giving off several inconclusive messages. It's one of those movies you keep expecting to have some pay off or some deeper meaning in hopes you're not watching a well-disguised saucy romantic B-movie. Unfortunately, this movie never culminated in a pay off for me.There were too many loose ends that weren't tied up, and the entire script and plot felt very juvenile- like a high school girl trying to write an edgy piece for her school art magazine (which is kind of coincidental.)
