After a Hong Kong nuclear plant and the Mercantile Trade Exchange in Chicago are hacked by unknown perpetrators, a federal agent proposes that the FBI work with China to find the cyber-criminals. The leader of the Chinese team, Chen Dawai, insists that convicted hacker Nick Hathaway be released from prison to help with the investigation. As Nick and his comrades chase their quarry, it becomes evident that the hackers have a sinister motive for their actions.

Critics Consensus

Thematically timely but dramatically inert, Blackhat strands Chris Hemsworth in a muddled misfire from director Michael Mann.

This is not a film about tight plotting or slam-bang action, but about style. Pure, hypnotic, mesmerizing style.

Insufferable and tacitly overlong, [Michael Mann's] shameful film is an early contender for being crowned worst film of the year. Play at being Neo for a day: dodge a bullet and skip 'Blackhat'.

The director’s cut is not likely to convert any Blackhat naysayers, though it is the markedly superior version, but it does at the very least prove that the only person who knows what a Michael Mann movie should be is Michael Mann.

This doubtless led to the few theatrical audience members wishing their auditorium seat came equipped with a fast-forward button. Yet those who remain patient will be rewarded with a reasonably involving tale.

A dash of hacking, a dash of terrorism, many deaths and a dash of international action.

Nothing for hackers, not much for action fans, very bad script, mediocre acting, a true waste of time - Watched till the very end. A big mistake! Worst movie I have seen in many years! 0%!!!

Great movie! I don't know what the hate is about. Sure you have to think but if you don't want to think watch a comedy. All the actors did a great job. Script was great. Directing was great. I grade movies by how many times I think I want to fast forward. I never thought that while watching this.
