Army officer Duke Halliday (Robert Mitchum) is headed to Mexico to track down a con artist named Jim Fiske (Patric Knowles). Along the way, he meets the beautiful Joan Graham (Jane Greer), who, like Halliday, was double-crossed by the shifty Fiske for a large sum of money. Complicating their search is Vincent Blake (William Bendix), a military man out to get Halliday, and Ortega (Ramon Novarro), a police inspector who is patiently waiting to see how the various conflicts play out.

As a police noir, it has a more or less fast-paced start that is made up of chases and shootouts, but it crosses regular roads that keep it on an easily predictable ground. Full review in Spanish Go to Full Review

For fans of Out of the Past (1947), seeing Mitchum and Greer together again, albeit in a very different type of movie, is a treat. It's not a great film but it's enjoyable viewing for Noirvember. Go to Full Review

Theodore P Sep 13, 2018 Don Seigel gives with a little advertisement for Mexican tourism as a chase for stolen Army money breaks over Mexico's highways. This isn't noir, or even a chase film (although it could apply to either), but rather an excuse for Greer and Mitchum to make with the goo-goo eyes at each other. Seigel throws in a fist fight or two lest the gents get too impatient. Decent. John Qualen, character actor extraordinaire, drops his nearly ever-present Swede accent for one movie, reason enough to watch! See more
Leia M Dec 31, 2017 Exciting gangster/crime film. It's barely over an hour too so it's very fast-paced. Minor SPOILER WARNING for "Out of the Past" which came out 2 years earlier, also starring Mitchum and Greer: in case their tragic love story still hurts, this pairing of the two might serve as a remedy. Mitchum is his usual swaggerly self. See more
