On what should be a routine rescue mission during World War II, the American submarine, USS Tiger Shark, picks up three survivors on a downed British hospital ship. With the crew trapped together in the sub's narrow corridors and constricted spaces, the unexpected visitors seem to spark a series of chilling, otherworldly occurrences.

Below is a creepy, claustrophobic exercise in style.

His Below is one of the scariest, most intense ghostly tales in a long time. Yet the ghost in question hardly lifts a finger and the unhinged human protagonists do most of the damage. Go to Full Review

The film has enough spooky momentum and good actors to keep it going. Go to Full Review

If you're into thrillers - late 90s early 2000s, obviously - this one is definitely for you. Go to Full Review

A mystery is also afoot (relying far too heavily on flashbacks), to impart purpose to the haunting, but it's the general mood that is most compelling. Go to Full Review

We get the sense that Twohy wants to push this movie to the limits but eases up in the last minutes and tends to resort to old horror clichs... Go to Full Review

Anakin R Oct 10, 2018 A good submarine horror/thriller... not outstanding, but not bad either. It's not a complete horror, but there are definitely horror themes prevalent throughout the movie, not to mention a supernatural presence. Bruce Greenwood does great in his role as the sub's Captain who slowly loses his mind as the movie wears on. I found Olivia Williams to be quite irritating for most of the movie before she (obviously) saves the day (you could see that coming from a mile away). The horror elements were fun, being creepy, dark and suspenseful. I wouldn't recommend this movie if you're looking for a good Friday night movie, but if it's a rainy Sunday afternoon this will do the trick. See more
Abraham P Oct 7, 2017 It's crazy that critics hated this movie, and the audience score is way off too. Suspense, action, spookiness, horror--it's all there. The plot, acting, directing, cinematography, special effects are all very good--especially compared to many other films with much higher ratings. Any more detail would entail spoilers, but I will say this: War, submarine, intrigue, ghosts/sci-fy, guilt, tragedy...all as well-done as any B+ film in its genre. I give it a solid B+...85%. Han S Aug 16, 2017 Not scary, the visual effects are out-dated already and I do not understand the antagonists intentions or even what the intentions are. I am not even sure who's the antagonist. See more
Kylo W Aug 16, 2017 The plot is already stupid, but add a thriller with no thrills and no logic makes it a movie that misses its mark by a mile.
Hagrid P Apr 28, 2017 A nice and effective mix of genres in this well done film.
Hagrid W May 1, 2016 Twohy does a great job (mainly in the first hour) in slowly building an absorbing mystery in this claustrophobic mix of horror and war movie (like Das Boot meets The Shining), even if later on it is weakened by stupid plot holes and a silly attempt to sound profound in the end.
