"Belle de Jour" is more interesting and provocative than the great run of pictures one ever sees. Buuel's handling of color is gorgeous. And the acting is impeccable. Go to Full Review

People think of Deneuve as cinema's answer to bone china, and indeed the romantic efforts of Truffaut, say, left her looking stiff and staid. But she made the brilliant Bunuel think again, and gave his heart a jump. Go to Full Review

Anakin L Apr 21, 2019 Catherine Deneuve is wonderful in this great study of human character and psyche, that doesn't stay only in the sexual aspect which is the core theme. One of the best Bunuel films. See more
Kylo P Jul 18, 2018 A pretty blond girl is dating a rich, slick fella. She is kind of a housewife and I guess she finds her life a bit boring at times. That's why she tries out a career as a prostitute. Not the street kind, but more like a recident girl that you can visit if you know your way around the town of Paris. Morality and sexuality are the two biggest keywords here. She know it's wrong, but she kinds of like the idea of doing it. It's like a kick. Very daring film as it's actually 50 years old now. Things you should not talk about and absolutely not add to film are shown and spiced with some bondage erotic scenes and hints. Some seem pretty violent and raw too. Weird scenes appear several times, often in the mentioned bondage setting or something similiar. Only my second film from Bunuel, but my favorite so far. Catherine Deneuve seem pretty perfect for the role and is supported by solid actors too. It's done without music and is pretty straight forward production-wise. It's plain, but fittingly so. The story and the main character is the motor of the film, the subtle surrealism is making it something special. 7.5 out of 10 coachmen. See more
Kylo S Oct 27, 2017 With its highly intriguing plot on pleasure and satisfaction, and its central character seductively played by Deneuve, Belle de Jour is an unforgettable cinematic experience. Bunuel is definitely at its best in this very sensual and surreal movie. See more
Kylo G Aug 16, 2017 Very memorable movie with great pacing. The acting was great and it seemed like it could be a deep character study of Belle De Jour. Very depressing movie as well. See more
Anakin S Aug 12, 2017 This is sure not a errotic theme. It's the melancholia of a severe depressed mind and it's self study.
George S Aug 1, 2017 I only rarely vouch for a classic film to be remade but I would absolutely love to see a modern day take on this delightfully French flick about a woman finding sexual freedom away from her perfect husband and in the arms of shall we say "less-than-perfect" paying customers. There's a lot to chew on here in terms of content, the film looks gorgeous, and the whole thing breezes by at a perfect pace thanks to astute direction by Bunuel, who easily ranks as one of my favorite French filmmaker.
