In the 1980s Beirut, Mason Skiles is a former U.S. diplomat who is called back into service to save a colleague from the group that is possibly responsible for his own family's death. Meanwhile, a CIA field agent who is working undercover at the American embassy is tasked with keeping Mason alive and ensuring that the mission is a success.

Critics Consensus

Beirut tells a complex, tightly plotted tale of international intrigue, further elevated by strong central performances from Jon Hamm and Rosamund Pike.

Tony Gilroy's script is intricate and intelligent, with an appropriately cynical view of US foreign relations. And Hamm makes hay with his best role since Mad Men.

The everlasting charm of Jon Hamm successfully elevate Beirut, even though some part of the movie might be too slow.

excellent thriller starring Jon Hamm & Rosamund Pike (and a surprise with-toupee Dean Norris) where you are never quite sure who's playing who and why until things escalate to a boiling point. Nicely done !

A poor man's le Carre. In a good way. Hamm is solid.
