Batman (Val Kilmer) faces off against two foes: the schizophrenic, horribly scarred former District Attorney Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones), and the Riddler (Jim Carrey), a disgruntled ex-Wayne Enterprises inventor seeking revenge against his former employer by unleashing his brain-sucking weapon on Gotham City's residents. As the caped crusader also deals with tortured memories of his parents' murder, he has a new romance, with psychologist Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman).

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Loud, excessively busy, and often boring, Batman Forever nonetheless has the charisma of Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones to offer mild relief.

The whole thing is just that little bit wackier, perhaps closer to the 60s TV version - although Two-Face's burns are nastier than that show would have permitted. Go to Full Review

Batman Forever is a visual tour de force, a knock-your-eyes-out effort. But it overdoes, overkills. And what starts out exhilarating ends up...exhausting. Go to Full Review

It doesn't add up to much, but it's certainly entertaining. Go to Full Review

As for Two-Face, my favorite Batman baddie on the printed page, Tommy Lee Jones makes a complete mockery of the character with a broad performance that's difficult to stomach. Go to Full Review

A unique chapter in the Dark Knight’s cinematic history — a stylistic detour that dared to show Gotham in a different light. Literally. Go to Full Review

Batman Forever is a cartoonishly fun time, but only truly comes to life when Carrey's Riddler is on screen. Go to Full Review

Theodore S Apr 18, 2019 For such a colorful and action packed film you'd think it wouldn't be so boring. It sadly is. Val Kilmer sleeps through his performance like you will probably sleep through the film. See more
Hermione L Apr 1, 2019 While the plot of the film is somewhat lacking. Batman forever succeeds as a satisfying action packed blockbuster.
Luke S Mar 27, 2019 I never get sick of watching this movie. I like that its not as dark as the others. The costumes are amazing.
Leia W Mar 16, 2019 As much crap as Batman Forever takes for pushing Batman down a brighter, colorful, poppier, and frankly disposable route. This was a direct result of Burtonman Returns overly dark, goth and equally goofy take. At least Forever has fun with it all. Less mean spirited as well. See more
Luke W Mar 16, 2019 The only thing that works in this film is Tommy Lee Jones
Han M Feb 19, 2019 A very mid-90s Batman movie.
