Posing as children's photographers, three crooks (Adam Robert Worton, Joe Mantegna, Lara Flynn Boyle) scheme their way into a mansion to kidnap an infant (Brigid Duffy, Eddie Bracken). Their hostage proves quite resourceful, however, escaping their hideout and making his way into downtown Chicago. Now the con men have to find their abductee, who believes that in order to return home he must reenact scenes from his favorite storybook, including trips to the zoo and a construction site.

The whole is so efficiently made that you honestly can't tell where and how the stunts are woven into the material.

Great fun as a family movie: not remotely heart-warming and beautifully photographed.

What really spoils an otherwise standard comedy is the gooey sentimentality.

With more baby-involvement, it could have been quite diverting. As it is, the baby is obviously photographed separately.

Bruce Broughton's unremitting musical score does all the heavy lifting in this ponderous and lazy retread of Home Alone. There is no snap or plausibility anywhere on display, and when the best performance is from the baby, well... Joe Mantegna is completely miscast and to see John Neville and Eddie Bracken given walk-on roles is shameful.
