Avengers: Age of Ultron

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Exuberant and eye-popping, Avengers: Age of Ultron serves as an overstuffed but mostly satisfying sequel, reuniting its predecessor's unwieldy cast with a few new additions and a worthy foe.

There is little in this film that is new, but that doesn't matter. The characters are still entertaining, the action scenes thrilling and near orgasmic, and the human relationships touching. Go to Full Review

With the MCU amoeba-ing into larger, stranger shapes and sizes, the disparate stable of its characters will only prove further inharmonious. Go to Full Review

There’s a lot of stuff to like – to love, even. I just didn’t leave the theatre in the same kind of giddy trance I did back in 2012. Go to Full Review

I ate up the funny banter between each unique superhero personality. I loved the large-scaled action which seemed ripped straight from the pages of a comic book. I was interested in the future movie tablesetting. Go to Full Review

Han L Apr 28, 2019 Age of Ultron is a great sequel to the original Avengers but not quite better than it. It fits very nicely with the other phase two MCU films in that it serves to not only introduce new and complex characters, but to also allow for growth. This movie very clearly teaches the Avengers as a group that they must work together and be honest with each other in order to have the best chance of succeeding. The villain, while not terribly clever, does run with a plan and has morals that make sense. It is always good to have a villain that believes what they are doing is right. The stakes, while not alien level of dangerous, still feel impactful and provide tension. This movie also features maybe the best scene in the MCU when we get to clearly see the cast as friends instead of just heroes. SPOILERS: I find it amazing that this movie manages to introduce us to a new character, turn him to the good side, and then kill him off all in one movie. I would expect the death to feel less impactful because of those reasons, but it definitely isn't. See more
Apr 26, 2019 Some decent character moments, but this is the exact point in the MCU where it all started to go wrong - with the death of Pietro. See more
Hagrid P Apr 26, 2019 The second 'Avengers' film juggles too many things at once as it clumsily sets up future movies and arcs, adds several new characters plus a villain to an already packed cast, and tries to instill major spectacle on top of working as a sequel to the nine related movies coming before it. Joss Whedon, bless his heart, manages to keep the chaos together for the most part, but his aggravatingly excessive, borderline intrusive use of silly quips does nothing in the film's favor. The tone is noticeably off, straying too far into comedic territory in moments of severe stakes and peril, but that's not all that suffers as a result. James Spader's chilling voicework as Ultron becomes as misleading as the film's title, which really should have been named "The Minor Inconvenience of Ultron," because with Whedon's ridiculous comedic angle and all the other stuff going on in the background, one of Marvel's most intimidating villains never embraces the meaningful threat he's supposed to present. Apr 22, 2019 Avengers age of Ultron is a film with a confused villain and a script that does not surpass its predecessor but it is exciting and satisfying to see our heroes reunited again See more
Hermione M Apr 22, 2019 In this movie you cant tell if its good or not. It has good action. But not the best for everything else which makes me think was this the perfect Marvel Movie or not. See more
Kylo S Apr 19, 2019 It doesn't reach as high as many other MCU entries, it certainly doesn't ruin it, and provides many memorable scenes to carry itself on See more
